The Semenyo Thread - Now a Bournemouth Player. Deal Confirmed

Recommended Posts

The big question now is…

Does the club wait until giving this the final sign-off until we have a player ready to sign?

A bit like what we saw with Bentley yesterday. And the Flint (out) and Webster (in) scenario.

We can’t risk leaving ourselves short.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Dembele join on loan.

£9m plus add-ons sounds a bit derisory tbh. Of course those add-ons could be very easy to hit, devil is in the detail but the initial fee yes is a bit derisory.

Could it be that Bournemouth are willing to pay £9m upfront and the rest in instalments ? I've heard some people say if it is £15m it would likely be paid over a period of time so £9m upfront right now doesn't seem to bad if the add on's are likely to come a later date

Could a best case end up being - he goes to Bournemouth, bangs in a few goals whilst they go down, then a bigger club pick him up this summer and we feast on the sell-on too?

Or, to answer my own question. Could that be a worst case?

Say he goes to another club for £14m.

We’d get at best 40% of profit, so circa £2.2m, but miss out on all these add on clauses for appearances and so on.

Value drops dramatically if he's here in the summer, plus the club needs the money (which is common knowledge to other clubs)

My own opinion, but I disagree…it doesn’t necessarily drop, let alone dramatically.  It would do if he was still here after the summer window closes, but not during it necessarily.

The club always needs money, but we don’t currently need it for FFP, and come the summer we lose a big chunk of the cost base anyway.

Just my view though.

I'm sure we have someone lined up and it'll be a condition of the deal for AS. We'd be silly not as otherwise once we've sold him then we'll be held to ransom knowing the amount in the kitty etc.

I think we are going to be held to ransom in any case, both by the selling club and the players agent.

Even if this deal has not officially gone through other clubs will be 100% aware of it and will price their player accordingly.

With an added premium as we are so late in the window.

I think the best option financially would be a 6 month loan of a PL striker who is not currently getting a game.

Not sure about that. If you look at Semenyo's body of work to date, and his conversion rate in particular, there has to be quite a big leap of faith element to paying this sort of money for him.

Defensively yes.

But I feel a Massengo type conversation for the future there @Davefevs ?

You’ve started to answer it yourself below ???

All good points @LondonBristolian

I just feel from an attacking perspective we are a bit lop sided at the moment. With the vast majority of our attacks down the left hand side.

Blackburn were well drilled on us last Sat, and when they shut down Pring. That showed up the lack of productivity from the right hand side, it left us a bit devoid until Bell came on and added a bit more impetus.

Completely agree with both you @GrahamC over Tanner defensively. When Pring goes, he stays, and provides cover for Vyner & Atkinson. Makes a huge difference as people have said, playing a right back there, rather than someone out of position.

I think it’s worth remembering who was playing left wing / forward for Blackburn on Saturday!  And what that might’ve been meant tactically?

I can’t comment on Swansea (a), but he was pretty decent with the ball v Brum too.

Lets wait until he’s played another 4-6 games at RB in a back 4 and see how we view him then.

Would we have to pocket any of this to be even safer with FFP? Or can we go absolutely wild in the market now / summer? Sorry very out of the loop with regards to FFP

Multiple ways to skin a cat (£9m)! ???

Must be weird for Antoine going from a championship team to a Premier League club, whose entire stadium you could fit into the Lansdown stand. Can't feel like much of an upgrade apart from the coin.

Probably helps when every other week you’re playing in front of 30-70k though

Agree.  Gets to play away every week though at least   Palace the much better option though - if they want him and are prepared to pay.

I think Richard Gould would have known last week that a deal was happening and as someone else said this may have been a deadline day for a deal set by us. If so then I would be surprised if a deal for a replacement had not been worked on and likely agreed before todays news on Antoine. I don’t thing an experienced CEO would have waited for the deal to be agreed before having his incoming plans either set up or at least very close.

he'd get to play at Old Trafford, Emirates though…or at least trying their changing rooms to begin with

I think anyone we look at on the right would be short term, you and @NcnsBcfc, haven't mentioned Kane Wilson is on his way back and would be long term competition.

I agree.

Although stuff does fall through too, hopefully not in our case.

@GrahamCdid on my behalf! ? He’s had a first season a bit like George hasn’t he?  Plenty of time for him.

The £50k per week they were rumoured to be offering Semenyo might cushion the blow a little!

If you'd told me circa 2010 that in around 10 years time we'd be selling our best young players to Bournemouth for fees of £14m and £9m respectively, I'd have assumed you were a crackhead.

Quite sad isn't it when you compare the likes of us to them, Brighton, Brentford etc

Press conference today so probably meaning they will have clarity on it from that......or not depending on Pearsons mood.

I wonder when the press conference being released will correlate to the move itself. Might be embargoed until later on in case the club don’t want to show their hand

Lets not forget people the reported 'Accepted' bid is from Talksport - They might have Simon Jordan as a commentator on there, but i dont believe they are the most reliable source out there. Plenty more to happen with this yet I believe

To be fair, Alex Crook is usually pretty reliable.
And as for the Hughton situation, that’s because Hughton’s agent leaked the story as they were supremely confident of getting the job. Only to discover that not having done your preparation for an interview doesn’t tend to land you a job!

It is sad to look at two of those clubs, appreciate Bournemouth cheated FFP to get there but Brentford & Brighton had a sustainable business model whilst we’ve chopped and changed from pillars to Ashton to various other methods. Whilst our owner pumps money into the club , I don’t think he’s ever had either the right voices taking to him or a structured way of progress and for that we’ve fallen years behind Brentford & Brighton and selling out best young players to Bournemouth

Yea it might possibly be pushed back, but pearson is usually honest in his interviews so I can't seeing it being much of an issue , or maybe one of the coaches may do it instead.

Without wishing to derail the thread, it's his poor employment at management level, on and off the pitch, to blame.

Oi! That's my info! But yeah, Hughton's agent leaked that story to Talksport to put pressure on the City hierarchy to appoint him as he knew most City fans wanted Hughton.

As it turns out Jon Lansdown decided to appoint Dean Holden instead ?

It's crap that even relegation threatened Premier League teams are able to cherry pick our brightest talents, double or treble their wages, and chuck £10m our way for fun. I do not blame players in the slightest for taking the payrise, getting a few months of top flight football on their CV, and then probably playing at the very top of the Championship if/when they do get relegated.

Still shit though.

Even more depressing that it’s such a poxy outfit as Bournemouth. But they gambled, cheated, got away with it and won. It’s a bugger.
