Here’s a thought - what if JD has been offered new contract (he’s OOC next summer) but he’s rejected, so City will look to sell and Naismith is replacement……

Not sure. But we are now starting to see value for money signings. So refreshing

We have offered him a 3 year deal, probably doubled his wages. He gets to live in a beautiful part of the country with amazing facilities.

To any Luton fan, I understand your frustration but it's dog eat dog in the Championship. Nothing personal but get use to it. Don't be bitter, celebrate your success and trust your recruitment process to replace him.

Firstly, I’m not usually the one to shout transfer rumours across this board. So I will just pass this on from what I’ve heard earlier today…

Apparently we are having talks with this lad. Swansea are another club that’s very interested by all accounts. I’m not sure what his contract status is with Luton, I haven’t really looked into it…

Just passing on.

Anymore Lew? ?

A very astute signing. Luton punched well above their weight last season and i’d imagine he feared a season of struggle was on the cards for them.

The pull of coming to a bigger club that can pay to play under Nigel Pearson was obviously too great for him..

I love signings that are a total surprise. How have we signed the player of the season from a playoff team? Surely a good sign that players see us as a bit more promising now

Pearson probably does have a decent pull factor for us I guess.

It’s interesting to speculate. What impact will it have on Pring as well as Dasilva? Atkinson’s a LCB so how will our first choice defence be set up?

Of course everything will depend on who stays and who goes but this signing immediately makes us look much stronger defensively. A really good signing. Well done BCFC and welcome Kai.

He has a massive pull for us IMO. One of the reason i was so happy when Pearson came in to be honest. Players want to play for him especially at this level.

I enjoyed watching Naismith since his early days at Accrington. He mainly played right wing/midfield when up there.
Same when he went to Portsmouth. Right wing and then left wing/midfield, with occasional stints in behind the striker.
Was still at right mid when at Wigan with the odd game here or there at left back.
It was only the last 2 seasons at Luton where he’d been predominantly playing as a defender. And in fairness, he’s taken to it pretty well.
So he has the technique of a winger but clearly can perform in defence too.

It’s a sensible signing. I’d imagine he’ll be played at left back but offer cover in the middle of defence if required.
I don’t think this impacts the potential Horsfall or Wilson interest. I wouldn’t be surprised to see both of those too. We clearly want to have more (and better) defenders in the squad.

A bit salty on th eLuton forum ? - referring to OTIB:

It’s a wankathon over there about Kal. A journeyman for most of his career. 18 months under NJ and his team and has one decent season in probably 12 as a pro and they think they’ve signed Rio Ferdinand. The team that took Bakinson and ruined him and I noticed O’Dowda who they signed ahead of us has now left on a free.
8th is their best ever season in the championship under the playoff system. A nothing club that’s won **** all and never will.

Just watched his interview after signing.

Very impressive. He has a winners mentality and said Pearson was key to him signing.

Certainly a lot to like about this deal, and bodes well for what is still to come this summer.

Agree, talks like a winner!

To be fair its their third season in the league and they achieved top 6. Think they are as used to it as you can get however surely they will struggle to keep players. Lutons a hole and a few of their players would have turned heads.

Judging by his interview he expects to play centre half but is happy to play left back or midfield. 3 signings in 1.

Sadly for Luton whilst we get 20k crowds and they get about 10k then we will always be in a better position to attract players than them

Haha Non league club giving it the biggun again because lets face it thats what they are seen as to the younger football generations. In all fairness to them I'd be angry If I lived in Luton.

They're quite clearly upset one of their best players has left them to a rival club, we'd be the same.

They are incorrect on the last paragraph though, we finished 4th once upon a time, maybe when they were stuck in the non league.

We never sign in demand Championship players for free so rightfully we are happy

Haha you have to laugh at them.

Imagine actually having the misfortune to call Luton your ‘home’. Arguably the worst town i have ever had the displeasure of visiting - what an absolute shit hole of a place.

Also 8th our best finish in the championship? Did the thick cunt forget about us getting to the 2008 championship play-off final then?

As mentioned to @Harryon our WhatsApp group, Paul Cook started playing Naismith as a “sweeper/ CB” at Wigan in the season they went down (19/20).  He’s one of the players who Cook signed a few times, and why a few of us were excited that Cook was in the frame when LJ left…as he is a good recruiter.  Alas.

We should’ve got him that summer, Luton got him in the January.

@Lew - T Chapeau.

Pleased with this, talks in his interview as seeing himself as a centre back, so looks like Baker’s replacement to me.

Still expecting Klose to stay on but not Cundy.

When I first heard this, I thought straight away this was going to be Baker’s replacement.

I think you're correct.

Signing Naismith, whilst also having Atkinson who can play the LCB role would indicate that we have now covered Bakers position.

If Klose signs his deal, whilst also having Kalas, then we have 4 very good centre backs for this level.

The Horsfall (Northampton) rumour may also be correct and act as Cundy's replacement, thus giving us great options at the back.

Kane Wilson next please.

Seems like a great signing  experience at the back is what we need. I couldn't even use that old forum to read their views but can tell just by the topics , although to be fair on this other forum slightly more balanced views;

magicspix: Criminal that we allowed Naismith to run his contract down. He'll be a massive loss. Don't understand why we only gave him a one year deal in the first place. Now he's got three years & presumably more money. Don't blame him, blame the club.49 minutes ago
geko: Hang on Derek. Naismith only wanted a wage in a panic with what was going on at Wigan. Nothing to do with letting his contract run down. He's got what any 30 year old footballer wants, a final big payday which he was never going to get at Luton.38 minutes ago *
geko: Some would say 'jack of all trades, master of none'. Filled in at fullback, a second rate centreback and had limited success in an attacking role. We can do better.
