What way did it go? Well i'm not bloody chasing it!

? That's the one, it had to be.

Bless him, he will be sorely missed. Hope the club do something for him; appreciate they can't do it for everyone but even a still picture of a red fedora on the big screen at a certain time in the match would be IMO a fitting tribute.

Felt only saw him a few days ago waiting for the Bus on Gilda Parade, always gave him a toot and got a wave back.

Top bloke, first met him in one of the 4 corner pubs at Brentford as a teenager no idea who he was, but what a lovely bloke

Oh wow. Seeing him and his red hat walking around pubs/towards ground on match days was part of the ritual

Part of the Bristol City fabric for as long as I’ve been supporting City.

It will be odd not seeing that red hat, home and away.

RIP Stoney.

It was always part of the day, home or away, to look out for him in his red hat, just as I did yesterday at Bournemouth.

Always had a word when I saw him.

Really sad news, proper shame.

RIP Mr. Bristol City and condolences to his family.

(if possible, his hat should be in the future BCFC museum)

I, too. often saw him in Whitchurch, usually waiting for the 376 into town. Also caught his act in various South Bristol pubs back in the day.

However my over riding memory of him was from the 2012 Mayoral election when he made a specific point of going around as many polling stations as he could, mine included, to specifically thank the staff at the stations for all their hard work.  As many have said, a true gent.

Such sad news. I was in the audience at several of his 'shows' Knowle Golf Club, mainly. He was hilarious. Such a lovely person, he'd always have time to stop and chat. Worked with his brother for many years, so condolences to the family at such a sad time.

Stoney Garnett RIP.....you will truly be missed by everyone who was fortunate enough to meet you throughout your life.  Bristol City just won't be the same without your presence and your   smiley face under that iconic red hat.  Surely some tribute is due by the club and supporters?

The older you get the more pieces of your Bristol City life come to an end. I once spent a good hour and a few ciders with him in the Wedlock's before a game during the time the club banned him from entering the stadium. He was so engaging that he had to remind me at five to three to get in the ground or I'd miss the start. I felt so bad about leaving him there on his own as the ub by then was deserted. RIP Stoney. True legend. Probably the most iconic City fan ever.

My condolences to his family and friends.

I was out for a drink tonight with my son when we were told about the sad news by a fellow city supporter. I am still in shock about it. One of the greatest characters at ashton gate you'd ever wish to meet. Met stoney on many away trips. He was absolutely hilarious when he was cracking his jokes on the train up wherever we were going. One of the nicest blokes you'd meet and will be truly missed by all of us but never forgotten.

Could we make flag day in honour of stoney?

Rest in peace

A really good mate of my Dad's. When my Dad died during the pandemic, Stoney came to the funeral, even though the restrictions meant he couldn't get in. So he just came along to stand outside and pay his respects. A really good guy and, like everyone has said, funny as. RIP

I’d wager there are no City fans over the age of 18? Maybe younger who wouldn’t recognise Stoney.
I recall a good few years back, sitting in the garden of the rising sun, a glorious hot day, Stoney had the assembled throng in stitches with his jokes and anecdotes.
Not many football fans achieve legendary status at their clubs.

Stoney did. Rest in Peace sir.

Knew him all the way through growing up. Good friends with my dad. He came to my nan's funeral/wake a few months back and spent so much time cracking jokes and making people laughed. Will be sorely missed.

Amazing tributes on here and across social media. He really was Mr Bristol City.

I would love to see a mural of his unmistakable image on one of the walls inside the concourse.

This must be done - providing his family agree to it.

RIP …. A real character, I did not know him personally but seeing him at so many away games over the years it seemed that he always spread a little happiness. I remember Fulham A in recent times when a hard tackle came in during the first minute and he screamed out “all game ref, he’s been doing it all game”.

Very sad news. I remember being in the Inns Court pub back in the day. Stoney walked in and up to the bar . Pulled a violin out from its case ,went through the motion of trying to place a hankercheif just right on his shoulder before placing the violin in place. Then plucking a string as if to tune it . Stopping to crack jokes before going through the whole procedure again and again and again. He never played the instrument but had us all in fits at the performance. We both played for Broad Plain House . Stoney was playing in goal this game, away at Henbury on a freezing day. Broad Plain were about 6 up in the 2nd half and snow was in the air. It was one way traffic till our opponents broke away , we turned to face our goal but there was no sign of Stoney. He decided to go and get changed as there was no point in freezing himself as the game was won.  I'll remember his 'gentlemen's evenings and his 'extra's appearances in films. His bus conductor bit part where he actually got to say a line and him in Welsh Back filming as a German soldier extra.  As so many have said he was a real character and true legend.  The goal he scored as a referee made the national newspapers. It is no myth. He scored  a header from a corner for a team who were getting hammered. Nice one Stoney. RIP

Sad news indeed, my first experience of Stoney would be 40 or so years ago, when he compered a Gentleman’s evening in The Raymend Hotel, near Victoria Park.  Our paths crossed many times since then, at football and in various watering holes in Bristol, often had a chat with him as I bumped into him around Whitchurch.

I recall the Black Lion (Maesknoll Toby Carvery) had many pictures of Stoney’s film appearances and TV clips, a huge character who has touched many peoples hearts and will be sadly missed.

Condolences to Stoney’s family.

Can remember seeing him most days stood on the corner of Ridgeway Lane / Wharnecliffe Gardens on my way to work, with the customary mutual thumbs up, or in The Yeoman.  Not sure about anyone else but he didn't have to say anything at all to make me laugh, just the way he swanned about was enough!  Can't believe he's gone, thought I'd go before him and I'm only 47.

My memory might be playing tricks, but I'm pretty sure he read out the teams once at Ashton Gate over the PA, would have been early 90s and I'm certain the opposition was Tranmere.  There I was sat in my seat waiting for the teams to be announced, then his tones came over the PA instead of Phil Tottle's "in gawl, Eric Nixon" etc.

RIP Stoney,

many years ago the supporters club sometimes had a deal with the clubs of other teams allowing us to drink in their bars.we played Cambridge utd away and Stoney did a turn on evening after the match he went down very well.I don’t know how much they understood his accent but they were rolling about laughing. Great man will be sadly missed.

I remember catching the 376 from Gilda Parade (opposite the Yeoman) down to Temple Meads one Saturday morning. I was sat next to Stoney chatting and he told me that on the morning of the first Bristol mayoral election a chauffeur driven car was sent to his place for him to use for the day, to get him around the polling stations. (As he was up against old red trousers for City Mayor) When it turned up and he was  leaving his place, the postie was just going up to his door, so handed him his mail. Amongst the letters was a court summons for non payment of council tax. He still got my vote..

Bumped in to him outside a pub in Rotherham a few years back. The lads on his coach had decamped early for a more discreet entry, leaving him to arrive on his own on an otherwise empty coach.

So we went for a pint. They only had Strongbow (or Wrongbow as he called it). So Stoney was topping it up with cans of the good stuff that he had secreted in the inside pockets of his overcoat, like a dodgy watch salesman.

A great character who would always say hello and stop for a chat.

He will be missed by many I am sure.
