Massengo

Lets wait for Nige's pre-match talk with club or BBCRB....could be a knock (update: tonsillitis), could be the consistency from Nige that he will use him when he needs him as he hasn't signed contract.  I'm fine with that.  Might be a wake up for Han if he is fit.  Maybe could come to a head?

Nige’s interview suggests that it just wasn’t worth risking him today as he will be needed on Tuesday

Bump.

As the person who started this thread, everything Han did badly against Sunderland he did well today. Positionally very good, biting in tackle, used ball well. Excellent.

I think with Massengo that is what you get, 100% biting player with skill, it either comes off or doesn't, hence brilliant or below par, you never seem to get anything else.  Personally I like him, Even when stuff is not coming off you can never question the effort.

Thought he grew in to the game and was very good second half.

I noticed during one break in play he came to the touch line and spoke to Pearson, a smile on both their faces, maybe he might see the light and realise that another couple of seasons at this level and with this coaching team will serve his football education well.

I think he is gone, Pearson clearly likes him as a player or he would not be near the first team, and I think running down his contract rlis what is frustrating to Pearson, Massengo will always give 100% and his attitude is first rate, but the run down of his contract can sit easy with Pearson or those upstairs. Thankfully Pearson isn't being too belligerent and knows he can use the talent while he is still here.

Personally I hope he stays, but I think he has proven enough (other than goalscoring) to earn himself something lucrative elsewhere and probably at a higher level.

Like my post in the match thread, thought he was as close to a 10/10 at this level as you can get.

Loved him giving Scott a good taking too first half - what a leader.

think he will be the best bit of business we have done in a long time and can see him being our captain if Bentley leaves.

(just realised I’ve put this in the wrong thread ? meant to be about Naismith if a mod can merge kindly)  ?

Perhaps so, if he pulls that sort of performance out each time he starts then we’ll miss him.

I think we will. There is plenty to like with his game, I think the frustration when people complain about him is more to do with what you know he can do when he is on it.  And that can't be a bad thing.

And lets not forget he is still very young for a 1st team central midfielder who let's be fair when on it can dictate games, then add in he is playing in a foreign country where he is not speaking his mother tongue.

Personally I think the lad is fantastic when you take all of that into account

Massengo was top notch tonight.

I think the reason that HNM is a divisive player is simply that he's a confidence player.

I can recall a couple of games where he couldn't kick a ball straight and others where he has been imperious.

Diedhiou was the same, not that I'm claiming it's a French thing.

Some players only show their best when they're feeling right, particularly as a 21 year old in a foreign land.

That's my feeling too. He seems a little diffident but I'd be constantly reminding him how good he is and encouraging him to just go out and believe in himself on the pitch.

I've watched City for three seasons, this is my fourth and tonight was as good as I've seen Massengo play. Treat him right, get him to sign the contract and he will be a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuggggggge asset for the club, either playing wise or to sell & finance other transfers.

I like the lad; 100 games in the bank six weeks after your 21st birthday is damn impressive.

Fair play, he and Alex Scott were outstanding tonight, the Luton Midfield couldn't get near the pair of them

The only way they could stop them was foul them.  Sometimes the myopic ref let them get away with that, sometimes he didn't.

Few dodgy moments first half, but quickly grew into one of the best on the pitch. Was superb second half.

FWIW (could be BS) but heard today the sticking point re contract is that he’s been offered the exact same terms that he’s on right now, so basically extending his current contract rather than anything ‘new’

Classic HNM tonight. Must be a pain in the arse to play against. He's constantly pressing and getting stuck in.

A fine pass to help setup the goal as well.

Wait a sec.... But he doesn't get assists according to some on here?

Interesting you say that, my thoughts to all the criticism of him not signing is, how do we know he has  been offered a good deal worth signing.

Depends if what he is currently on is high relative to todays climate. If he’s on £10k per week, is he worth £15k?

If it means that we get an extra million or two as and when we eventually have to sell, then bloody oath

I've made my feelings known about him for a couple of years now. There's a  reason why Brentford let him go. We've leaked goals constantly since he's been here despite changes in the back like, time for a new No1 long overdue. His only real competition has been Max who isn't really championship quality. Maenpaa was way better and shame be got injured.

Good shot stopper but never comes out and catches a ball his punching is always dodgy aswell.

Yep, there’s no way he came here for €3m on £2k p.w…and rightly so.  But with Ashton it’s likely he’s on a very decent wedge, but the wage market has moved.  Nige isn’t gonna break his wage structure…not for a player who isn’t at the consistent level of someone like Andi Weimann. But if there’s scope within that structure to give him a bit more, I would.

I’m a fan of his, think it will be a sad day if he leaves next summer.  C’mon Nige, work some magic!
