Not in time for Wednesday. My guess is Coventry will forfit the tie or the tie will be played on the 2nd round date, probably at AG.

The rules say it has to be played before the 2nd round ties….the only slot available is this week because of league fixtures.

So it’s either a bye or played somewhere else, but not delayed.

Unless they bend the rules! ??‍♂️

The only way we could realistically host would be behind closed doors at the training ground given it has to be played this midweek as we’ve both got games next midweek and the week after it’s the second round and they’d need police approval and staff at short notice

Coventry may well decide it’s not worth the hassle and forfeit

The other option they might look at is postponing the midweek league games the following week (Luton at home for us, Wigan at home for them), though obviously they then have to be fitted in somewhere.

Is unlikely as Coventry already have todays game to reschedule

I hope they do...........and then kick their arses out of it.

Coventry seem to be doing a good job of playing the victim but it was the actions of their owners who caused them to lose their share of the stadium

Wasps then bought the stadium from the local council

Has to be a neutral venue...

How is that unsafe...?!

It's just a bit bare of grass.

FFS - it's only 10-15 years ago that even top flight games were played on far worse than that, week in, week out - even at the biggest clubs.

I don't think any clubs played on rutted pitches - at any level.

Its dangerous FFS.

We know it doesn't look as bad as Derby's old Baseball Ground where the local paper ran a Spot the Grass competition, but things have moved on.

What interests me though is the quote "The match official that inspected said he wouldn't have played a League Two game on it, let alone a Championship game" . If true he could get in trouble for that remark.

You would expect City to have made an announcement if the game was subject to an inspection, just to stop people booking travel.

You’re putting far too much faith in football clubs being able to plan/use common sense. I’m really not expecting to see us play Wednesday.

just get on and play it, we can blame the pitch if we lose.

it would stump lj though, where would he measure it??

He’d build sand castles and get Holden to look for the attacking POMO round his moat

They can’t do that until Coventry tell them whether there is one or not, can they?

Look forward to OTIB afterwards if we then lost 2 players to long term injuries as a result of it going ahead..

Tickets have been taken off sale. As far as I’m aware it’s going to be played at a neutral venue with only people who have pre purchased tickets allowed entry, not totally sure where though

FFS, I was holding off buying them given the uncertainty - now I may not be able to go.  Absolute shambles. (Not City's fault though - but possibly!)

Don’t take my word for it yet!

As far as I’m aware stuff will be announced this morning, but the club are keeping the details very quiet

What difference does the level make? It's either playable/safe or it's not?

Surely Forest Green Rovers is the obvious place to play the neutral venue.

Or Cinderford... ?

Don’t think ‘neutral’ in this context means reasonably convenient for both sides, as it’s still a Coventry home fixture. Somewhere in the Midlands is my guess- and WBA would be better for us. Dark horses, say MK Dons or Oxford- both newish, well tended outfits.

Birmingham  probably.  Closest to Coventry.  They played there before.  Birmingham need the money.

Still have huge problems with parts of the ground closed though, don’t they?

Appreciate it might not be an issue for a league cup tie though.

Surely the problems with police approval and staffing would still exist

I wonder how feasible it is to move a fixture at such short notice?

The logistics of moving staff, stewards etc, then policing and travel arrangements makes it nigh on impossible I would have thought

Where did the neutral venue information you heard about come from?

A friend of a friend who works at the club. Sounds very vague I know but I have no reason to doubt it. Looking at the state of Covs pitch I’d be very surprised if it went ahead there, so a neutral venue makes sense, even if it would be a logistical nightmare I’d imagine

Looks like you’re right.

Rumour on their fans’ forum is they are moving there for the next 6 weeks to give Wasps the time sort the pitch out.

What an effing mess.

Wasps are in the shit financially, there's a chance Coventry could reclaim ownership of the ground for not very much of an outlay.

I'm not sure they have ever owned the stadium. I've always understood it when built, it was owned by Coventry Council who later sold it to a non football company.

Do Wasps own it? I'm also not sure they do.

Yes Wasps own the Coventry Building Society Arena

Could be interesting getting on the Coach, like one of those mystery tours the Saga Louts go on.

I remember some old friends of the family who were holidaying in Bournemouth, jumped on one of those one day in the week. They nattered away as you do, and then things started to get familiar and they found themselves back in Bristol. :) They had a laugh about it, went to a little cafe they knew and then got taken back to Bournemouth.

Imagine getting on the Coach not knowing the neutral venue and finding yourself up the Mem. ?

Even mystery tours have some sort of hygiene standards!!!

And is now being played in the Northern half of the draw? Surely we should have hosted the game instead?

Exactly what I was thinking. Cup round one is split north/south so surely the neutral venue has to be in the southern section? Can’t expect fans to go the extra distance in midweek league cup which is part of the reason for regionalisation

Exactly. Based on our form, definitely going South.

"Carabao Cup rules stipulate that if the hosting team cannot fulfil the fixture at their home ground, a neutral venue must be found in the first instance before looking at reversing the fixture.

All 366 purchased tickets remain valid for the round one clash with travelling supporters able to be accommodated within the seated area at the new venue.

Tickets have been taken off sale and if supporters wish to apply for a refund, they can do by contacting Supporter Services via email or by phone - 0117 963 0600.

Coach tickets continue to be valid with departure from the Winterstoke car-park as originally scheduled at 3.30pm and parking on site is permitted."

It does seem to be a decision taken which puts the interests of Coventry above ours - it's their fault# but we have to travel an extra hour each way.

# Actually Wasps fault who committed to relay the pitch before the Commonwealth Games but didn't presumably due to financial difficulty, but ultimately it's up to Coventry to make arrangements to ensure matches take place according to EFL rules.

I had a limited window around work to make it to Coventry and back in the same night. A move to Birmingham would have been okay. Burton is more or less out of the question now.

I realise they are unconnected but it must be a first that a club's fans has significant complications to their travel on not 1, not 2 but 3 consecutive away fixtures to start the season.

Given Rotherham (the Ricoh's other victims) was just postponed, and they were at home last week and next, we can lay claim to being the most inconvenienced fans in the country.

There is an option of getting the train back to London from Burton changing either at Tamworth or Birmingham but not getting back to Euston until around 0100
