Jay Emmanuel-Thomas' next career move...

When you think about all the players we've signed who have done well elsewhere and been terrible at City, JET has to be the best example of a player who we got the absolute best years out of. His 2 seasons with us were far and away the best he has ever had in his career, and we didn't then keep him around for years afterwards on ridiculous wages when he wasn't playing well, or loaning him out to lower leagues.

Absolutely we did get the best of him which doesn`t often happen. I can`t think of too many others - Sam Baldock maybe? Nicky Maynard?

Well said and as far as I am aware it was SOD who started getting all of that out of him. Most naturally gifted player I've ever seen playing for us.

Wenger hails hot prospect Emmanuel-Thomas - Independent.ie

The Arsenal manager believes the teenager from Forest Gate - who started out as a centre-back - has it all, and with the right dedication, can reach the very top of the game.

"Jay is knocking very hard on my door - with two hands. He has outstanding quality," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.

"He works very hard to get his fitness right. When his fitness is right, Jay will be not only a good player, but a great player.

"One thing is for sure - he can score goals. That is a massive talent you cannot give to people, his right foot, left foot, he is unbelievable in front of goal.

"This guy is an unbelievable finisher, inside and outside of the box.

"He has outstanding qualities, he has the build you dream to have.

"It is down to how far he wants to go because he has big potential."

The hype when we signed him was huge, never seen our fan base so excited by a signing. I think it was a swap deal with Paul Anderson who never got a game here, I thought he was a decent player too.

JET was great fun to watch. Felt like a "luxury" player to us when we were in L1. Him and Sam Baldock did some damage

Another player (see Pitman B) that was never used properly or given a real chance. I was sad to see him leave.

Swazzy.

Loved watching JET's 'training' social media when in Thailand. Recalls the Spanish waiter / George Best story, he delivering a UK newspaper headlined 'George Best, Where Did It All Go Wrong?' to the man himself. Best reclined on the suite's gigantic bed piled high with tens of thousands of dollars casino winnings, quaffing fine champagne whilst lying in the arms of Miss World.

How on earth did he start out as a Centre-Back?

It was a neat line, and was lapped up by the likes of Barnsley's "Parky" and other dinosaurs it being the 1970s, but the truth was Best was a sad and pitiful wreck of a human being. I think we have moved on a bit from that sort of nonsense now. A bit.

I read this week that by the age of 22 Best had won his last trophy.

The fact his “best” was at city is all you need to know! His attitude and work ethic outweighed the good he done. Might have scored a couple, but also responsible for the team having to play like we had 10 men when he was on the pitch.

There is a reason why his career never peaked higher than bang average league 1 and it wasn’t his ability that was clear to see. It was everything else that went alongside it.

It was, indeed, dating back to their Doncaster days.

I well remember his wonderful, MotM performance for Doncaster at Ashton Gate.

Possibly, but I alluded to folks criticizing JET for squandering his talents, which undoubtedly he did, but more power to his elbow for the life he's enjoying.

Couldn't miss it given the boots he wore that day.

I miss JET. Players like him who can light up the dullest of games are all too rare.

100%. When we had players like JET and Tomlin, we were no more likely to win than we are today... but at least I looked forward to going in case it was a day for one of those moments of magic.

True. When JET got the ball on the halfway line you genuinely had no idea what was coming next - would he just amble past three defenders and effortlessly launch one into the top corner? You just never knew but it got you off your seat.

Height, build, probably a more natural fit in that respect at the back. Then you realise he can really play with the ball at his feet, he was probably moved further forward because of it.

I'm guessing.
