Haven’t noticed this. Is it because it’s no longer socially acceptable to use the word “Man” because of offending someone?

Um, no. I think you're the only person offended here!

It's because it's now sponsored by Thatcher's. Been done for the Bears for a while now.

This is only very tenuously linked, but I assume in women’s football, it’s either MVP or player of the match?

So … when they’re being pressed hard for the ball from the blindside, what do the fans/players shout? Surely not man on… player on doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue…

Forgive my ignorance - I need to get to more live games (and not televised WSL matches).

There are also potential legal complications around "man of the match":

Quote

The intellectual property rights of the phrase "man of the match" has been sold at auction and some copyright experts think the slogan could be worth millions of pounds.

Ah, now I get it. I’m sure you can understand my thinking though?

Nah,  you've just been taken in by the hype around a culture war that doesn't exist.  Nobody bar a few extremists is offended by the use of Man Of The Match.

No, it’s the link to Thatchers and picking apples.  Nothing sinister at all.

I hope we never get sponsored by Rentokill Pest Control. Rat of the match would be a bit OTT

I did chuckle at as I imagined the distraught look on the producers face as Souness talked about a “man’s game” earlier.

I knew this would get brought up on social media and it has.

The video I saw I didn't really have such as issue with as Souness was highlighting an issue there has been specifically in the mens game with regards to what physicality has been allowed.

I thought it might be that, it just sounds awful. Why not just write “pick of the crop” ? The mix of messages just doesn’t work imo.

Nope, totally legit.

This tweet from the guy that runs Sports Interactive who make Football Manager says it's why they removed the phrase from the game:

I remember when Victoria Beckham sued Peterborough Utd over use of the nickname "Posh". She got what she deserved when Nestle sued her for the use of the term "Pop Tart".

I don’t know but apparently some people do!
it makes you wonder what will be next?

I always find it funny that people like you shout from the roof tops about others being offended/snowflakes, yet you’re the ones that are outraged at the most ridiculous things.

And what am I actually offended by? Something seems to be in your left wing imagination!

I’m not even left wing, I’m a centralist so the fact you said my imagination whilst assuming my political stance is quite ironic.. actually, it isn’t.

Yes, in an alternate reality he'd say, "it's just man on man action", twiddle his moustache, and wink down the camera lens.
