But how would Britton have done if he had Weiman and Wells setting him up. He was decent on the deck but better in the air and definately more aggressive. But not so quick as Conway but not as slow as Martin. We'll never know. Pity.

Sure those who saw him train every day know, and it's them who make the decisions.

I would think if you take the song by The Who "Tommy The Pinball Wizard" Ever since I was a young boy, I watched football , From Sheffield down to Brighton , I watched them all , But I ain't seen nothing like. He 's Tommy Conway and he sure plays a mean football.

Like comparing apples to oranges.  Conway had the huge advantage of going through the academy and it showed.  Conway has an all round game up to championship standard.

I don't think the club could wait for Britton to catch up, if he was going to of course. I hope he can prove himself but the Irish second tier ain't the place to do it imo.

What's a penalty?

You know in international tournaments they schedule a ritual humiliation of England where we can't kick the ball in the net from really close range. It's one of those kicks.

How can we praise NP for all the good he has done but question releasing a player who had about 20 minutes in a nothing game?

He got sussed out. Clearly had a chance to impress when NP first arrived and did not. Pearson didn’t even have him training with the first team last year when he was giving opportunities to almost anyone. He wasn’t good enough and was not going to be good enough. Why are we still bringing Britton up? NP gotten everything right except releasing a bloke who has ended up in the Irish league?

Just in case that's how it came out, I wasn't criticising Britton. I enjoyed watching him and think with service he will score. But it doesn't look like he's getting a regular start at the moment.

Conway has an all round game and work ethic. As @bcfc01 said, it may have a lot to do with being with the club from 7 years old. Britton came alive in the box, he lived on service. Conway has great technique and links play really well and does a lot of work in the channels. I was surprised and impressed with his strength and hold up play too , hard to see in the U21's. I always thought he was the better technical player.
We will never know how things would have gone with a run in the first team for Britton. But it certainly looks like Nige got this one right.

We'll have to go some to beat this effort from Hearts - excuse the formatting, lost interest in trying to sort it out.

And now, the end is near,

We've followed Hearts, from Perth to Paisley, We've traveled far by bus and car, And other times, we went by railway

We've been, to Aberdeen, We hate the Hibs, they make us spew up,

So make a noise you Gorgie Boys, We're going to Europe

To see, HMFC, We'll even dig, the Channel Tunnel,

When we're afloat, on some big boat, We'll tie our scarves, around the funnel,

We have no cares, for other players,

Like Rossi, Boniek or Tardelli,

When we're overseas, the Hibs will be in Portobelly

We all can laugh, at Hibs When we play Chelsea, Metz or Inter,

They'll be up at Dundee, And relegated by mid winter,

While we go, marching on, And show the Huns, the way to do it,

They lost again, while we had slain, The might of Europe The day's, not far away, When we will reach, the heights of glory, We'll follow Hearts, through foreign parts, And Gorgie Boys, will tell the story, How we scored three, at Napoli, Hibs lost away, again, at Greenock, When Hibs went down, we took the crown, As Kings of Europe

Assuming those who said loan him out, he ain’t ready have now re-evaluated. Definitely ready and glad he isn’t being loaned out. He can play anywhere across the front as well so valuable player to have. The lad must be on cloud nine right now.

Yep really impressed with him. The thing that struck me most is his movement. It's clearly instinctive, and that space he found for the chance he missed in the first half was really cleverly done.

I think if we didn't already have Semenyo and Scott doing so well, he'd get more recognition. He's looking like the best young forward to come through the academy* since Lita.

*Not including Semenyo in that as he wasn't strictly academy.

With respect as Britton is currently on the subs bench for a side in the Irish second division, I think we can all take a fairly decent guess.

I am totally baffled by this ongoing obsession with him, Saikou Janneh also left us this summer, scored 2 goals in his only ever first team start, is now playing at a far higher standard yet he never gets highlighted.

Don’t get it.

Because Britton is a local lad from Hanham who was working on a building site with his old man only a few years ago..

I genuinely think its more of the story and background of Britton that gets certain fans going more than the actual ability of the kid.

I agree that we made the right decision in letting him go, but just to be accurate he played from the start in their recent 1-2 win at promotion rivals Cobh Rangers, he hasn't scored there yet, but he can score goals at that level as he showed at Waterford. They are one of only a couple of full time teams in that league though.

Correct - he was at Chelsea before us.

Could be an argument for Reid but obviously he only became a striker much later on with his time with us.

I’ve got no grudge with that mate. It’s people bashing the club for letting him go, I’ve seen it a lot on here and there.

I would have to say David Cotterill & Bobby Reid and I would caveat them as being goal scorers not necessarily strikers.

Just hope we hold on to him.

How long have we waited for a player like him to come along from the academy.

He has come on so much this season and looks like the real deal.

Defiantly has an eye for goal.

Also has a good touch and has got decent pace.

Then just like a bus (not in Bristol) we get three come along at once.

I just hope we can make the most of them while they are here.

I never thought I would say it I would let Scott go out of the three.

One or two additions to this team and we have a real chance to get into that top six I just don’t think we have the money there to do it.

I think you have to go back to Kevin Mabbutt !!  as a true home grown forward of note (Still early days for TC but what a start )  !!

Racking my grey matter but can’t come up with one since

( Bobby Reid of course depending how you view him positionally )

52 to young to fully appreciate the Clash and the Punk Scene.
London Calling a fine album but I don’t think it’s lasted the test of time like Rattus Norvegicus or Never Mind the Bollocks.
Anyway I’ll be leading the chant from Dolman 32 on Wednesday as I can’t come up with anything better.

Rattus is a great album.  Looks like I’m a whipper-snapper, but my elder cousin was a big Stranglers fan, and when we used to visit, we’d be welcomed into his bedroom with a big poster of a Raven.  The Stranglers were the first proper band I saw gig…in Newport, supported by Joe Strummer!

My cousin was the one who got me into Bowie too.

Maybe the 82 section, could work with a wiemann in hammersmith palais,?

Joe Strummer lived in Broomfield which is about 9 miles west of Bridgwater.

Hugh Cornwell has lived in Box near Bath for decades, went to Bristol Uni and used to play guitar for weekend cash in Keith Floyd's restaurant. Jet Black lived just outside Tetbury.

A Stranglers song would be perfect although not sure which one..

Anyways, it looks like we'll keep Conway for beyond this Summer- that's not a bummer. His goals are peaches.

P.s Sil Wilcox used to be a roadie/helper for the Stranglers and ended up managing them (after Hugh left) ever sine - the other band he manages? The Wurzels.

Down to being influenced by others in my schooldays.  The Who, The Jam, The Cult, before I got into GnR and Aerosmith.  Without those influences maybe I’d have stuck with The Thompson Twins!

71 times?? Wow, I've seen them over 10 times, mainly with Hugh at the helm but a few since, Bowie just the 5 times, it should have been 6 but just before he was due to play in Carcassonne where I was living and couldn't believe he was coming, he had his heart attack and never really played again.

I really wish we could get a good old classic song going that would catch on. I think it's got to be a classic that everyone instantly recognises, like Forest and the Mull of Kintyre.

Also, we seem to have a habit of over complicating the lyrics, the HNM song for instance has way too many words in it to be sung properly, the bit with his name in is brilliant then it all just goes to a mumble. The same with a few of the others.

Keep it simple......and before anyone says 'you have a go' I hold my hand up and say I've got nothing!

Another local connection is that one of my favourite bands  when I was a yoof was Clifton based The Cortinas. Nik Sheppard went on to play guitar for Joe Strummer when the Clash split whilst Pete Howard of Bath based EAT played drums after Topper Headon was sacked due to his drug problems.

So- both Clash & Stranglers have very strong connections with Bristol and the West country.

Meanwhile Neil Diamond and Sweet Caroline is pretty much without meaning to England and I have found it entirely embarrassing that this was the best we could do in two Euro finals when England has one of the greatest selection of bands in the world -ever.

Not quite sure I agree having given it a recent reappraisal, there are a couple of tracks that sound better now I am older. Now the Sandinista triple album definitely needed a good editor. I remember Joe Strummer saying once, when asked about side b of the 3rd disc. "Oh only the very brave go there". :)

I’m 53, not a musical expert by any means but grew up with all types of music because of TOTPs. I remember seeing David Bowie on there in the early 70s.
I remember seeing the Jam on there for the first time. Kate Bush, Blondie… As a kid, the 70s was mega for different genres of music. I’m so lucky to have been around then.
