Jerseybean
It’s Buckinghamshire for our Carabao Cup second round tie v Wycombe Wanderers, who battled into the second round with a 2-1 victory at League Two Northampton. Tickets for the game are on general sale to all supporters, with pay on the day available at a price increase. City have been given an initial allocation of 1,000 for the fixture, which kicks off at 745 pm. Having missed out on promotion after losing 2-0 to Sunderland in the League One playoff final last season, Wycombe did not make the ideal start to the 2022-23 campaign having lost three successive league games following their opening day victory against Burton Albion. However, at the weekend they won 3-0 away at Barnsley. Wycombe are called the Chairboys because of the tradition of chair-making in the town of High Wycombe. The nickname was used in the early days of the Club but was only resurrected after the 1980's fanzine Chairboys Gas dug out the name from the history books. Adams Park has been the home of Wycombe Wanderers since 1990, when the club moved from their old stadium Loakes Park, which was sold to expand Wycombe General Hospital. The money raised from that was used to build Adams Park, which was named after former benefactor and captain Frank Adams: https://wycombewandererstrust.com/2015/04/the-legacy-of-frank-adams Former Bristol City loanee, Alfie Mawson, joined them earlier this month: https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/62506312 Andy Davies, he of the Nigel Pearson "parks" comment, will be taking charge of the game. Next month their 49-year-old manager will celebrate 10 years in charge of the club which he ended his playing career at, with a close to 40% win rate demonstrating the consistency that he has implemented during his tenure. For some Gareth Ainsworth is something of a cult hero. During his playing days Ainsworth picked up the nickname "Wild Thing" due to his appearance and his rock star ambitions; he was in a band called APA with Wimbledon teammates Chris Perry and Trond Andersen. He later joined a band called Dog Chewed the Handle, named after a Terrorvision song, after answering an advert in Loot. Prior to the audition, Ainsworth hid his footballing career from his bandmates until he had been accepted. The band were invited to support Bad Manners on tour but were forced to turn down the offer due to clashes with Ainsworth's footballing commitments. The band later split, with Ainsworth and another member forming a new band, Road to Eden. By November 2019, he was fronting The Cold Blooded Hearts. On 21 October 2010, he represented the English Football League at the unveiling of the Footballers' Battalions memorial on the site of the Battle of the Somme. He graduated from the University of Liverpool with a Diploma in Professional Studies in Football Management in December 2019. NP has happy memories of this cup as it is a competition he won as a player with Sheffield Wednesday before twice losing in the final with Middlesbrough. Anticipate a few changes with some being rested, which will likely include Williams, along with a couple of others with perhaps a starting place for Wilson and Klose. It took 45 games for City to win back-to-back matches last season and they failed to keep clean sheets in two consecutive league matches. We're only five matches in but both of those records can be wiped off the to-do list. The draw for the third round of the Carabao Cup will take place on Wednesday 25th August, at around 21:45 BST. The draw will commence following Arsenal's round two tie against West Brom at The Hawthorns. High Wycombe facts The town has a tradition that dates back to Medieval times of weighing its mayor to make sure that they aren’t gaining weight on the taxpayer's money. As mentioned High Wycombe’s most famous industry is its chair manufacturing which really took off in the 19th century - it is thought that around 4,700 chairs were made every day in High Wycombe in 1875. During a visit by Queen Victoria to the town in 1877 the council organised for chairs to be crafted into an arch over the High Street with “Long live the Queen” printed boldly on them. The idea was for the monarch to pass under this during her trip. High Wycombe has been home to a number of high-profile celebrities over the years. US TV host and actor James Corden grew up on the outskirts of High Wycombe in Hazlemere while Leigh-Anne Pinnock, who is a member of the girl band Little Mix is from the town. Actress Sally Phillips, who has starred in Bridget Jones and I’m Alan Partidge, attended Wycombe Abbey Girls School while actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played the lead in Kick Ass, was born in High Wycombe. Global bakery Hovis is based in the town. While Hovis did not start its life in High Wycombe, it was actually founded in Staffordshire, its head office is now in the town. The company was founded over 130 years ago and sells some of Britain’s most well-known products to families in Bucks and across the country. During the Second World War, from May 1942 Wycombe Abbey, a former girls school in High Wycombe, was the Headquarters of Eighth Air Force Bomber Command. The site was codenamed ‘Pinetree’ and there was a large underground bunker and a hutted encampment to the south and east of Daws Hill, which is near the Abbey. The Abbey was returned to the school in 1946, however, the other land was sold to the Ministry of Defence and the US continued to use the site during the Cold War. The bus leaves at 17:50 and 18:50 for evening kick-offs. Food: The stadium is in a pretty isolated location in Wycombe, so there aren't many places to eat near the stadium. sglosbcfc
I hate any talk of losing, I accept the League is the priority, but City are capable of beating a decent Wycombe team even with some changes. The players coming in should be hungry and with a point to prove. Without any info on niggles etc, this would be my starting 11 for tonight - 3-4-1-2 O Leary Vyner Klose Atkinson Wilson King Massengo Pring Weimann Martin Wells Depending on how the match is going, I'd make the following changes in the 2nd half - Naismith for Atkinson Scott for Massengo Conway for Wells Tanner for Wilson or Vyner Bell for Martin This would get minutes into the legs of the players that need it and protect those that need protecting ahead of the weekend. W-S-M Seagull
A good cup run can be the catalyst to good league results. There is a great feel good factor around the club at the moment and going on a cup run can only enhance that. Especially if we were able to either progress far like before or get a big cup draw. Getting a big club would also help to reduce some financial pressure. I'd stick with the same back 3 as it's another opportunity to gel. We need to field as strong of a team as we possible without compromising upon Saturday's game.

In principle, I agree with your comment entirely, and it is certainly not something I would normally do. It has been mentioned by several knowledgeable posters on this forum, however, that the three players I highlighted were all suffering before or after Saturday’s game. Weimann was apparently shattered before the match, so I doubt very much he would be risked before Blackpool. Atkinson appeared to be struggling with a groin injury, so ditto. And, finally, poor old (young) Tommy Conway ran himself in to the ground and was kicked from pillar to post, so, despite his current rich vein of form and, I am sure, a desire to add to his goal scoring spree, would surely be best advised to rest and recover for Blackpool. To clarify, my comment wasn’t aimed at the poster, rather at the article from that awful journal to which he provided a link. Still, I suppose we shall all find out later this evening.
