I asked my daughter on Friday: Ella Toone, or Lauren James? "Gotta be LJ for me, dad" she replied. I advised against this, referencing Spain's likely domination of the ball, and must now concede defeat to my daughter in knowing "how to set up" and generally "how the game works."

I think she sees me tactically as a bit of a dinosaur, like Nige,

Whether it’s city or England… I’m so so sick and tired of watching other people celebrate.

As a 40 year old City and England fan who has never seen my club in the top flight or my country win a tournament, I consider City fans of my generation to be genuinely the most long-suffering in the English game.

To be fair to the Lionesses, they did deliver us a hugely enjoyable Euros win last summer. Literally the only time I’ve seen a team I support win a major trophy.

Thanks - we are off on an all-day boat cruise tomorrow which (I think) includes both!

If Lokrum isn't included as a stop you can get a water taxi there from the old harbour front, very close by, only about 5 or 10 minutes in the boat I think. A good place to be on a very hot day and you escape the cruise ship hoardes in the old town.

That was a very England match. Plucky but not quite good enough

Spot on....the brave and plucky English losers against the savvy technically superior Spanish.  England were full of grit and determination, but that isn't enough when you are tactically out manoeuvered?

Jorge Vilda the manager has been sacked. Not totally sure what he did wrong?

There is a lot more history to this announcement, and not specifically related to what happened after the final

He was always going to be sacked this just gave them the sufficient ammunition to save face

What a way to celebrate a historic achievement - by destroying almost all credibility in the system. This has rapidly become a pyrrhic victory, but possibly the start of a new beginning.

I won't comment on the rights or wrongs of this matter, but it is notable that the new person appointed is a woman. Could this have been a move that was already planned to happen but has been precipitated earlier than expected? Was there an undercurrent at the Spanish offices to move people? It's all beginning to look like a house of cards.

It seems that there are structural problems that run deep in the Spanish FA. 15 players refused to play for Vilda due to the way he treated players. They won the World Cup with a weakened team. Vilda survived because of men like Rubiales standing up for him, simple as. When it became clear that Rubiales could not just bluster this out, then they are systematically dismantling this, but it's all a tad late.

Apologies for posting in an old thread, but thought it would fit here

I came across this video this evening & just thought how good it was to see the City flag in it, which I took out with me to Australia!
The original video is from this tweet but I couldn't get it to embed here properly, so posted my re-upload instead...
