Thoroughly deserved by Iran. Really happy that their nation has something to celebrate with everything they are going through right now.

It’s looking very tough for Wales now, they are gonna need to go gung ho against us.

As long as we beat USA and are safely through it won't matter what Wales do, although I can't see them beating us they looked very poor today

Thinking purely of England, I wanted that game to be a draw - preferably with lots of cards for the Welsh players, to reduce the pressure on us.

Iran deserved their win though - well played to them.

Wales could still go through - if they beat us. I wonder if the Welsh fans will be hoping for an England win tonight?!!!!!

Iran v USA final game could be fun. Yes I know we will all be watching us v Wales but that is interesting on and off the pitch- the two countries hate each other or have done. Could be a 2nd place decider assuming we win tonight.

Ideally the U.S. beat Iran, and go through with us.

Cardiff fans still doing the ayatollah?

Never understood that, as Sam Hammam (who now has no link to the club) was not Iranian, and more to the point, recent Ayatollahs have been horrible bastards. Might as well 'do the Hitler'.

What happens if teams finish level on points, goal difference, goals scored, results between teams?

Happened in 2018 with Japan and Senegal and it goes down to who has the least yellows/reds

Jurgen in the bbc studio, "the Iranians played the referee." Was that the german player who regularly tripped over the line of the 6 yard box?

I remeber him introducing diving to the english game. Before Jurgen you never saw it - well, I never did anyway.

Iran thoroughly deserved the win against a poor Wales performance. I can only hope that we pick ourselves up and thump England.

Unlikely though it is, I can dream!

They'll thump us will all the rage and impact of a three year old.

Robbie Savage last week...

What's wrong with all these England fans, they've only beaten Iran.

The likes of Bale, Kieffer Moore & Sorba Thomas might want to focus on themselves a little more in the future before obsessing over England.

However, that game on Tuesday could now be a cracker & no matter what people think will be a hard game for us.

How does JP know all the info on most of these players, must do a lot of homework.

Not to sound glib but it’s his job.  Which he’s fantastic at. Contrast him with someone like Sam Splatterface who couldn’t even get the German players clubs right the other day or the commentator this morning who kept getting players wrong and you see the value of his homework!

Saw a vid with Martin Tyler who explained his match notes that he uses .  I guess they all follow the same sort of method, detailed notes with facts ready to go.

Hats off to JP. Fair amount of homework needed on the Qatar team, but at least we all know some of the Senegal team, and not just Fam. That said the guy who kept mentioning Bath City in relation to Semenyo really needed to do a bit more homework not get obsessed with one detail!

You sure that wasn't Iran fans?

Probably. Presume the Iran players stayed silent again as well.

Pen then for Qatar surely?

Not a Bristol City pen but a pen

I'm surprised it wasn't given

Not a chance, was looking for that 100%, stepped across Sarr.

Alex Scott does that half a dozen times a game, Grealish too. it's clever play - no different to a defender shielding a ball out of play, if you then go through him it's a foul. There's no harm in "looking" for a foul or "inviting" contact, defenders have to be smarter
