RedRock
Watched the last 20 minutes. So refreshing, full-on football. No cheating, high-intensity, fast, aggressive, front-foot football. The way to go. Hopefully, Southgate is watching and, frankly, if we play our passive, negative, sideways, backwards carp may be we should step aside and let a ‘free football’ team take the trophy. For all the critics of this tournament, I’m quite enjoying it. Like the timing in this normally ‘dead period’ of the year, like the idea of not having to watch drunken brawls between our lot and the Rest of the World, and really like the idea that boring, negative ‘crab-football’ is, hopefully, being consigned to history.

Fam left roughly 18 months ago. It's irrelevant how he left. Morrell left more than 2 years ago so nothing for him. Wollacott I'm not sure of. He's out in Qatar with Ghana, but I don't think he's an official squad member. So it's unclear whether we get the money for him as well. He left the club in summer 2021, same as Fam. Would seem unlikely.

That wording simply says: "...approximately USD 10,000 to be received for each one of the days the relevant player remains with his national team during the FIFA World Cup 2022™ and the official preparation period." Can the bit in bold be read to include players who are "with the team" even if they are not named in the official squad? I think it's unlikely, and I expect the proper Rules of the programme to spell this out in more detail, but it's possible.

He made very similar points as the post about "latinos" on here - also said they wouldn't have got away with it with a european ref. In fairness, I assumed he meant footballing culture and not sure it was meant about Iran as a "culture" outside of football - although he's hardly one to speak about sportsmanship, cheating, conning refs. Not sure you can tarnish all people from one particular country like that though. Not all Germans cheat and dive like Mr Klinsmann did. It was clear that he was talking about their Football culture and not about the Country itself. People looking for something to be upset at. Italians are known for defending, Brazilians known for flair, England known for bottling tournaments and hooligans. It's stereotyping, but not offensive, they're good at gamesmanship and being difficult opponents is probably what he meant.

It was a feature of England in Southgate's early days where his previous U21 stars played through and around teams with slick one touch passing. It needs everyone on the same tempo of course and investing lots of energy. I accept it is a tournament and teams have a dull game or 2 but we just need to be careful not to lose that ability to give it a go.

Pretty fun side to watch in the Euros last time..good technically certainly but never really had a good/prolific striker in the current era. Yakin, Frei and Streller were quite good but they were weak in other areas then. They also eliminated France in the Euros in 2021, 3-3 thriller!! Switzerland played a full role in that game.
