Worth highlighting until he's made a few posts he can't PM

It's to stop spamming and fake accounts

I'll be at the England games for as long as England stay in the tournament. Also have tickets for four other group games.

Flying about half way tomorrow morning from London, and then onward to Doha on Saturday afternoon.

Fair play to you...enjoy ???????

is all the hype about drink prices true ?

Yes, beer is Qatar is normally about 10GBP or more, so 50 Qatari Riyals. And there is only Budweiser available in the beer tents.

Anyone got tips on accommodation please? I'm thinking wait until the group stages are over and hopefully demand will be lower

You have to get a Haya Card as well as accommodation, and match tickets before coming to Qatar. The rules are different for residents to get a match ticket.  We just have to have a Haya card to get a match ticket. Rules might change in December though. As for accommodation, there is big range of accommodation, from apartments, tents, cruise ships to hotels. Doha is small city, so everything is with fairly easy reach. Have you got anything potentially booked?

Not anymore, sorry, it's all been stopped at the stadium by the authorities. Just on the news.

I notice they only announced this AFTER everybody had booked and it was too late to back out, what a boring place to go to, if this fact had been known at the start I bet attendances would have been way down as if it wasn't a crap enough place to have a World cup now fans won't even be able to have a drink to celebrate or drown their sorrows.

you can still drink at the fan zone, hotels, bars etc. It's only the stadium they've banned it.

Just noticed that FIFA have now changed their minds 2 days before the tournament begins, regarding the serving of alcohol within the stadiums....so instead of the average supporter being allowed to enjoy a beer at extortionate  prices.......the only booze available will be served up to the corporate Fat Cats, in their Fat Cat corporate box's?.   Does FIFA's  hypocrisy really know no bounds?  Just another feather in the cap of these moron's who have been allowed to run the "people's game"....and that's a misnomer if i have ever heard one?  Ha!   I wonder if Queerta's morality police have had some influence on this?  But of course if you have buckets of Wonga you can probably do just about anything you want?   What a farce!

I don't know why people are so surprised at a booze ban in world cup stadiums, or for that matter so angry when most to have expressed anger won't be there anyway. It may come as a shock to many but it is actually possible to watch and enjoy a game of football without alcohol. As for the hypocrisy of FIFA in allowing drinking for the corporate punters that was a given wasn't it?

£12 for a pint of Budweiser at the stadium is no loss surely. It’s not all about drinking

Anyone who paid that amount for a beer would not only be an idiot but as its Budweiser, truly one of the worst beers in the world, display a, total lack of taste.

Budweiser and taste is something of a contradiction in terms9

It's sad for some that it seems it is.

It's even sadder that one poster on the forum has said they are  looking forward to riots for the same reason !!

I wonder if any will take in the Souqs, the Corniche or Purple Island and appreciate things instead of hitting the batter and acting like an uneducated maggot. ( no offense intended to the maggot )

Budweiser, I agree, is not exactly real ale, but when it’s 32 degrees and you’ve traveled over desert by bus to get to the flippen ground, it would have gone down nicely, even at £12 for 500 mills. Good chap on the England Supporters Travel Club Facebook page has posted an exhaustive Doha drinking guide. I fly tomorrow. And on a strictly personal note, since this morning my growth is not a ‘tumour’ but a ‘cyst’, meaning that it’s not cancer and I’m apparently not going to die, although it seems that a chunk of my tongue may have to be chopped out. So if you’re at Gatwick’s South terminal around lunchtime tomorrow and you see a 50 something bloke lying on the carpet, laughing uncontrollably and swimming in Stella and his own urine, do say hello.

Best wishes for your trip and upcoming health appointments.

Last time I was in Doha there was no alcohol at all (it being Ramadan didn't help,) but with a fine range of juices and soft drinks on offer this heavy drinker didn't miss it one bit.

Well it's not exactly party central is it and that;s coming from somebody that's 66 years old, let's put it this way of a list of places to visit it would be fairly low down, homophobic, women treated as second class citizens, intolerant of other peoples beliefs, nothing but sand as far as the eye can see, hot as hell it's not just Qatar none of the middle Eastern countries hold any appeal to me.

Obviously edited to fit their agenda but there was an interesting report on SSN last night into this

They interviewed multiple supporters from many countries and all but one said they associate having a beer with friends and other supporters watching these types of games. The only person shown was an American, but as soon as he called it soccer I was done lol

On the contrary there is plenty to see.  I lived and worked in Saudi in both Riyadh & Jeddah and there was plenty to do and see and certainly not just sand for miles and miles.

. One of my favorite quotes was ‘life is a shit sandwich and here in Jeddah the bread is very thin’.

I haven’t been east of Cyprus since the last time 1000s of troops were being dumped down there. But I have friends who live in various places in the ME, and they like it, as a lot of the City’s are much improved and really quite attractive.

Couldn't agree more.

Wouldn't believe everything you hear about the middle east, genuinely always enjoy heading there.

Fair enough.

Personally,  I thought Qatar was a total shithole but each to their own.
