Jerseybean
It’s been 28 days since our last game and here come the Millers. Their history is here: https://afootballreport.com/wiki/rotherham_united_fc_history Ahead of the game selection boxes can be donated (at the ground) as part of the Mission Christmas Campaign. With everyone feeling the impact of the cost of living crisis, this is another example of a football club ‘doing its bit’. The aim of Mission Christmas is to help make a difference to local children living in poverty, all selection boxes dropped off should be new and unwrapped. After the draw with Watford NP said to the players, ‘there's no excuse for us now to be inconsistent. That's the standard, that's the level. With the players we've got in the room we know what we've got - we know we can be a match for anyone and he said that's the level. When we come back for this 25-game period we have to be at that level every time now and there's no excuses. We'll go away now, have a bit of time with our families but we'll take our heart rate belts and do our running and keep on top of our fitness and come back raring to go.’ Pre the WCB they drew away 1-1 at Luton, with the Hatters equalising in the 90th minute. Their home form is played 10, won 4, drawn 3 and lost 3. They have two points more than us. Rotherham United recent Championship form: D, L, L, L, W, D = 5 points Our Championship form: W, L, D, L, D, D = 6 points Rotherham United’s AESSEAL New York Stadium is one of the newest stadiums in England. The Millers moved there in 2012 after spending four years at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. This followed over a century spent playing at Millmoor, https://www.aessealnewyorkstadium.com/the-stadium/ We have been given an initial allocation of 871 tickets for the trip to South Yorkshire. The traveling faithful have a round trip of about 364 miles (from Ashton Gate.) Manager Paul Warne departed for Derby County in September, he had this to say in an open letter to fans: https://www.themillers.co.uk/news/2022/september/read--an-open-letter-from-paul-warne/ In October Matt Taylor became the club’s new first team manager. The former Grecians boss agreed a three-and-a-half year deal, https://www.devonlive.com/sport/football/football-news/matt-taylor-confirmed-new-rotherham-7659193 Last season a 2-0 win over Gillingham on their travels not only secured promotion from the Sky Bet League One at the first time of asking for Rotherham but set a new Club record of clean sheets in the process, registering 27 shut-outs over the course of the campaign and only conceding 11 goals away from home. They finished in second place with 90 points just one crucial point more than MK Dons. Hull City striker Tom Eaves joined on a three-year deal. The 30-year-old spent the past three seasons with the Tigers but was not offered a new contract at the end of last season. There is illness going around the Millers camp, which could make Matt Taylor consider his players for availability right up to before kick-off. The ref is Sam Barrott: https://www.westridingfa.com/news/2020/aug/17/icanref-sam-barrott NP pre-match thoughts: https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/city-wait-on-naismith-for-millers-test/ Kingy pre-match: The match will ONLY be available to Robins TV subscribers overseas. As the home team, the Millers have declined the opportunity available within the FIFA World Cup period to stream the game domestically. However, if you are overseas you can watch via the match-day show from 12pm. Facts about Rotherham The Chuckle Brothers, Barry Elliott and Paul Elliott, were born in Rotherham. The comedy duo was most well known for their BBC children’s television programme ‘Chuckle Vision’. They were made honorary presidents of Rotherham United’s football club in 2007, and in they received the British Academy Children’s Award in 2008. The 2019 period drama ‘Downton Abbey’ follows the lives of the Crawley family and their downstairs staff, set in a Yorkshire country estate. The ballroom scenes were filmed at Wentworth Woodhouse, a stately home situated in Rotherham, which you can actually visit. Rotherham United appeared in the first-ever League Cup Final back in 1961. Presenter James May spent his teenage years in South Yorkshire and attended Oakwood Comprehensive School in Rotherham. He was also a choirboy at Whiston Parish Church – strange we haven’t heard his dulcet tones while on Top Gear or The Grand Tour! Jeremy Clarkson, co-star on Top Gear and The Grand Tour, also has links to Rotherham. He trained to become a journalist at the ‘Rotherham Advertiser’ in the early 1980s. It may not be long before it happens again, in a week’s time we are due to kick off v Stoke at the same time as the third place play off. Hopefully England will be playing the following day but kicking off the same time would surely be unique.

Red from afar
A couple of work colleagues who are season ticket holders at Rotherham were were worried earlier in the week about the game getting called off due to a frozen pitch. Apparently it wasn't deemed economical to put undersoil heating in due to size of the ground. If it wasn't when the ground was built, it definitely wouldn't be now.
