U-21 Forwards

With Antoine off and Conway and Weimann still out injured even with a new player coming in we still look a little short up top. Does anyone who watches the U-21's think any of the forwards would be able to make the step up to the first team?

Was just about to start a thread of the MD20 for Saturday.

Lets start with last Saturday’s team:

Starters:

O’Leary

Tanner Vyner Atkinson <space>

Scott James Naismith

Sykes Wells <space>

Subs:

Haikin

Dasilva

Kalas

King

Williams

Taylor-Clarke

Bell

<space>

<space>

I guess Nige might not bother to name 9 subs.  Even so, for sake of argument, Dasilva in at LB for Pring, Bell in at LF for Semenyo.  Leaves between 2 and 4 sub spaces.

Kadji probably comes in.

Palmer-Houlden maybe?

For balance I would see it being Palmer-Houlden maybe even Marlee Francois?

C’mon Gav…it’s on your injury page! ???

Suspended - two yellow cards in the FA Cup, suspension in the FA Cup.

Ha, I totally missed that! I’m honestly relieved, thought Nige had told us some bad news in his presser I’m yet to watch ??

Is Kadji suspended after his red card for U21 at Newcastle?

No.  Will be served in NFTM (non-first team match) as red card was given in NTFM.

I’m wondering if he might tinker with the line up. Perhaps giving the new keeper a start and maybe bring Kalas back in and revert to a five at the back.

Is it just me who feels this cup tied rule is very prehistoric?

Would Semenyo playing in the cup for Bournemouth make any difference to us?

Yep, just you.

A side gets to the final & signs a load of players who have played for other sides would be ridiculous.

Incidentally this rule was (rightly) waived for Man U in the season of the Munich air crash, so they had a couple playing in the final who had already featured for other teams, I believe, bit of a trivia question.

The scenario you highlight wouldn't happen, what with being outside of the transfer window and all, but why would it be ridiculous?

What's the difference between signing on to play in a cup competition vs signing on to play in a league competition?  Why should you be cup-tied, but not league tied?

As for Saturdays match, if he doesn't bring Dasilva in then I wonder if he might push Naismith out there.  It's not an unfamiliar position to him and it'll allow Williams to come in for a start.  And I would say that Sammy starts irrespective of the status of Semenyos move at the time.

But what difference does it make? A player signs for another club then he is their player. They should be able to do as that want

”Sorry, you can’t play in this semi final as you played in the third round three months ago for a completely different team that were then knocked out in the fourth round anyway”.

I really don’t get the point in your argument. With transfer windows nowadays a club couldn’t get to a final and just sign a load of players?

Could happen for the Carabao Cup

Cup tied rule is massively outdated.

Zero difference between a league or cup fixture - both are competitive.

Transfer windows limit signings anyway so you can’t “just buy all the best players for the final” - as if anyone would do that anyway. It’s a complete irrelevance whether or not a player has played for another club in the first 4 rounds of the cup

Completely agree. I wonder if it`s ever happened that a player from someone like Chesterfield or Grimsby has been signed in January by a bigger club that subsequently go on a cup run to the final and he can`t play because he played in a first round tie?

Surely we stick with a back 4 - I can’t go through a back 3 / 5 again. So few teams make it work in our league (it’s an all champ tie after all) especially with our midfield

What type of player is Palmer-Holden?

A centre forward with the makings of a decent all-round game.  Can hold it up, decent in the air, can run in behind…and can finish.  Has 10 goals in the u21s this season.  Was 19 in November.

Is Marlee Francois a similar type of player?

Do you think Nige doesn’t rate him yet? Recalls  Thomas from Bath City rather than putting him on the bench. Been scoring goals in u21 and I would have said he would have been nailed on for a place on the bench as we are lacking in that department. Could we see another Britton situation??

Dunno.  He took him to Austria pre-season.

Does anyone know if Olly Thomas has been injured (prior to his Bath loan on 6th Jan), because he’s barely played for u21s this season, just 3 sub apps, one of which was this week.

I thought he was very good last season, and wondered what had happened to him.
