Naismiths injury/Cow Puns

  • The title was changed to Naismiths injury/Cow Puns

These cow puns have reminded me of a really old gag.

A farmer wakes up one morning and is astounded to see all his cattle have frozen solid. He tries everything - consults the vet, even uses a blowtorch but they remain frozen. This goes on for weeks and he despairs, believing his livelihood is ruined.

Just as all is lost, he looks out of his window and an old woman is placing her hands on the cattle. Miraculously, as she does, they all come to life.

The farmer runs out and exclaims at the woman. “This is a miracle. Who are you?”

The woman looks up and replies “Thora Herd”

You’ve got to milk the old ones while you can. After too long they become a bit deja-moo. And if you tell them too often seems like you’re pasture best.

You never see that @GrahamC on these sort of threads, he goes missing when the puns start flying. Disappointing.

Humour, like taste in film & music is completely subjective, isn’t it?

More people like Mrs. Brown’s Boys than ever watched Monkey Dust or The Larry Sanders Show, for instance.

I’ll therefore try not to be too unkind here but reading the same obvious (unfunny) stuff is pretty tiresome, so once a thread descends into things like “udderly brilliant” or the same rubbish pun someone had already said about 6 posts previously, I’m off.

I've read this 3 times and I still can't figure out the pun here.

Finally another Monkey Dust fan! Probably wouldn't get broadcast now.

Anyway back to Naismith, and given that he likes to pass it out of defensive positions, in his absence are we just going to hoof it?

I'm with Graham on the last six poster thing. They clearly have a herd mentality...

All looked a bit fishy to me. Cod knows what happened. Lucky that Williams had a plaice on the bench or we’d have bream in a bit of trouble with him being the sole midfielder on the bench.
Good that Pearson has been able to get a tuna out of him. Performance probably a 7 on a scale of 10. Perhaps we need some more strength in depth in midfield - I’m sure the boss is gonna mullet over.

Edit.
Sorry. Wrong thread

Sounds like he could be out a while.

What would be the preferred midfield now?

Personally, Scott back with James and Andi in front would be preferable to Williams but I think he’ll get his chance this weekend.

I’ve never seen James and Williams as a good partnership, but signs of a return to form from the latter in recent games will earn him his spot. He’s got a chance to step up now and prove why he should be here next season.

Either way, Naismith is important to us and we’ll struggle not to be worse off in his absence.

Bring in Andi and move Scott back. I agree i don't like a midfield 2 of Williams and James.

Leave Scott where he is. His form has been outstanding. NP will probably play King in alongside James. Leave Williams as an impact sub.

It sounds like Williams will come in, and I think that's right.

I kind of understand people's hesitation of James and Williams combination but they worked really well together against Watford and I think they're two of our better players so am happy to see it again

They were also the midfield pairing used quite a bit at the back-end of last season when we got some good results / performances.

I’m sure Williams will come in, but of course he could push Scott deeper and bring Weimann in to the no10.

Christ, you trying to get us relegated Sir?

Naismith's injury is bad news in my book, our quality in midfield drops off significantly after Scott/James/Naismith for a team trying to pass it progressively.

There are other ways of playing of course but we don't have the forwards for that, now Martin and Semenyo have left, and they don't get the best out of Scott either.

Perhaps we could play Scott deeper and slot Mehmeti in at 10? But that's not his natural position and he needs a chance to acclimatise to this level anyway. I can't imagine Sykes is in the same league as Scott as a 10 and Weimann is not a natural there either.

James and Naismith central with Scott advanced looked like a very good fit. Fingers crossed the coaches can find an alternative that works just as well (imo, that doesn't involve King!)

Williams can’t pass forward for toffee but he’s our next best option in midfield with experience and an ounce of quality in that role. Unless we dropped Scott back and put weimann in at attacking midfielder

He’s a bit mixed, but still puts up decent numbers and his intent is to pass forward rather than sideways / backwards, so always gonna be a bit riskier.

For the Monkey Dust fans on here.

The plaintive whistling they sampled from Lovely Head got me listening to Goldfrapp. The saddest peace of music ever.

She was brilliant at Bath Pavillion last year.

On the footballing front, I think Naismith will be a loss we might struggle with against Norwich. He just gets the ball out the danger zone quite pronto, as a rule.

She was, I had never seen her live before because she normally plays festivals which I am not keen on.

It will be interesting which way we go with replacing Naismith, I can see arguments for Williams, keeping Scott where he is most creative, but also arguments for getting Weimann back in the team.

I suppose a third option would be reverting to a back 3 now Tomas is back.
