Atmosphere

Thought the crowd were great tonight, people go on about acoustics, roof too low, roof too high, sound doesn't travel etc but when plenty are on it AG is as good as any. Was chatting to.a couple of Man C on the way back to TM and they thought the atmosphere was great...oh and I asked them the all important question...who do you prefer  and they both said..they prefer us ?

Dare I say it but I thought it was actually a little disappointing? Must be mad because everyone else is raving about it. Good in spells for sure. Man City fans were great

After the first goal it went flat. Got going again at start of second half.

It was absolutely rammed outside the stadium and in the streets and pubs around the area creating a superb pre match atmosphere.

Which makes a mockery of the “official” attendances they give us for league games. Tonight was officially only a couple thousand more than Norwich, in reality it was probably 7 or 8 thousand more.

I would venture that there were a lot less kids tonight and a lot more adults. That certainly makes a difference in terms of both atmosphere and the feeling of how many are in the ground.

Now I was a little disappointed with the ManC’s - not as loud as their numbers should have produced and not much originality. Thought that they were a bit meh.

The difference today was just about everyone turned up, there really was nowhere near the official crowd at Norwich and many other games.  The south stand, which is supposed to be just about sold out, was about 60% full in that game.

Its just a shame we can’t get the real figure of how many are in the stadium.

Thought they were pretty good all game tbh, yeah not the loudest but kept going. Liked their Fleetwood Mac chant, was quality with the oouuuhhh ooooouuuuuuuhhhhhhh tale end. Not very creative though!!!!

Thought we were fairly quiet for large parts of the game. Then again ManC's ticky tacky 70% possession almost sends you into a trance like state.

I might be imagining this but I think I remember somebody posting those figures last season… From what I remember, you can typically deduct a couple of thousand from the official attendance on saturdays. More during August and midweek.

I’d agree with that, pretty mesmerising football to be seeing for the first/second time, a lot of the time hard to take your eyes off it and tear into a song!

Had Bell scored that header or the penalty on Sykes been awarded- then converted- roof would have come off.

I sit right in line with the goal line on the LS side…and could see the curl of the cross…and knew it was always gonna end up just beyond the range of Bell’s neck muscles to get it on target.  Would’ve been a right old final 20 mins had that made it 1-1.

It was good but I felt the league cup games of five years ago were better. Probably because of the results. I think if Bell had scored the roof would have come off.

I was disappointed tbh. I mean, I was sat in the Lansdown and I was just surrounded by people admiring how talented the Man City players are, which annoyed me. From my seat, the S82 lot did a great job, and the Man City fans probably edged it on noise.

The atmosphere was better than the average league game but I was hoping that it would be a game where where every tackle and attack would be roared on by all stands. Often in my area it was just me standing up and clapping and shouting. It's highly possible that I was the most drunk, mind...

Where I was in Dolman E34 that’s exactly how it was. When we conceded we were singing before the ball was back on the centre spot, every tackle / interception was roared and we barely stopped all game. I guess it just doesn’t carry well?

Same for me (also Dolman)

I also thought atmosphere wasn't as good as the previous meeting, but was great when we started going again second half.

But, check the comments in the BBC report from Manchester fans and you'll see they were very impressed with our atmosphere/fans so probably the best gauge of how it actually was!

Thought their fans were quiet volume wise, but did sing for a lot of the game in fairness

Maybe sounded better if you're closer to it?

Last night: 29% of the ball; 1 shot on target; no goals.

Jan 2018: 32% possession; 4 shots on target; 2 goals.

Just to help everyone a bit more with this:

Last night: we were never ahead, behind from 7th minute, rarely had the ball, one shot, didn't score, lost.

Man City 18: bit more of the ball, closer tie, scored twice.

Man Utd 18: 45% possession! Scored twice. Never behind. Injury time winner = atmosphere!

I thought it was fantastic before kick off and prior to them scoring and then went quiet till early 2nd half when the south stand corner started to get the crowd going again. Didn’t hear Dolman block A at all. I was a little disappointed with the atmosphere. It was like everyone was dragged into watching how well Man City were playing and concentrating on the likes of Foden etc.

I'd like to record that I was pleasantly surprised at the size and quality of the free scarves.

They were very decent for sure....though I was shocked to see the abortion that was half and half scarves, lanyards, mugs, badges etc on sale in the Club Shop.  I thought those were only sold by plums outside the stadium!

Yeah I agree, E34 was poppin last night so I’m guessing that the sound don’t travel as far as we think

Yeah, that us a bit horrifying - and proof that the "suits" in Bridtol Sport don't really understand football fans.

Certainly felt like a lot more than just 2k more than the Norwich game, it was heaving absolutely everywhere in the stands, sears and concourse.

I know I’m stating the obvious but….the difference was - people with tickets actually turned up.

Such a shame we didn’t get a goal during all that time it was 0-1, that would have boosted confidence and atmosphere.

Just watching the match back Sam Matterface just saying we had scored in every game this year before yesterday. One of only 5 of the 92 to do it.

Of course we can carry on the unbeaten run and goal run in the league.

First half was a bit disappointing, it doesn't help that section 82 kept on with that song. Much better 2nd half though ?

Not as bad as the songs from the Dolman.

What was wrong with Dolman. Back of E34 started majority of chants , mixture of old and newer songs.
thought the atmosphere in E34 was good last night and even though Section 82 were going at it all game, you can hardly hear them from E34.

Too many songs about the Gas for one. I much prefer the songs about City and the players songs. Each to their own though.

Yeah I thought it sounded decent having a song/chant that keeps going and doesn't fade out after a few seconds. Definitely helps create an atmosphere

Just like the free scarves at the West Ham cup game a few seasons ago, they bear a rare mark: 'Made in the UK'. I like to think Mr Lansdown will have insisted on it, and we ought to be grateful.

TBH it might have something to do with being able to get them to Bristol from a UK supplier faster than the supply chain from China is currently taking.

But whatever, it's a generous gesture and sourcing from the UK is undoubtedly more expensive than getting them from Shaoxing or Dhaka.

Yeh because in reality it was probably 5 or 6k more than the Norwich game.

Man City had about 1500 more fans than Norwich.

It didn’t look like 4500 empty seats around the rest of the ground so I disagree with that estimate especially if you compare it to the Wigan game.

Norwich attendance given as 23,757. Last night given as 25,713. Both figures are actually "tickets sold" rather than "people through the turnstiles".

For every home league game you can take off approx 2-3k STholders who don't turn up. Last night almost all of those who bought a ticket will have attended.

So ok, maybe more like 4-5k more than Norwich, but it will have been a bigger difference than the 2k gap in official figures.

The ground holds 27,000 so it would have been 3,500 empty seats though it looked more than that to me.

Good points.

Think it depends on the home game mate, some games it could be more than 3k STs that don’t show up, others it’s much less. I do agree that it was a bigger difference last night than 2k, certainly not 6k though.

Once again when the songs are simple and well known they are loud. The clever little dittys tend to be sung by a few and die out.. If we want to have clever songs why not produce a song sheet sheet and post it free on here
