I reckon we’re getting at most 25% of the story here…

You would think the guy would be given a chance to stop swearing? If he then carried on......................

I’m not a Lawyer but as far as I know  swearing or using threatening language in public is a Public Order Offence. I would’ve thought he’d have been warned about his conduct before actually being nicked though.
Im intrigued to know if there’s more to it ie Copper told him to zip it, he told Copper to “go **** himself!”… that sort of thing?

I was wondering that myself.......................very rare that you don't get a chance to shut up by Police. They don't really want to be filling in forms all evening because a bloke is swearing.

Didn't realise the singing section was on Ashton Road...

Maybe he saw you swearing in front of children earlier in the season before being reprimanded by a steward and believed that’s how you behave?

Swearing (in a public place) has got to cause "distress, alarm or harassment" for it to be a public order offence.  I guess it depends on how young the kids were as to whether they'd be alarmed and distressed.

You'd get a warning to moderate your language though before any arrest. Sounds like Al's son was rather het up and was removed from the area before getting in worse bother.

I was there during the Gary Johnson early days when we lost every game, I was there on a cold Tuesday watching O'Driscoll playing Marlon Harwood up front, I had hope in my heart when I saw the team and Matt Heywood was partnering David Partridge at centre back

Blimey, you’re a jinx! No wonder we lost last night. ;)

I actually turned round and asked the bloke behind me to pipe down last night, clearly struggles to put any sentence together without swearing. He wasn’t impressed.

I go with my 12 year old, I’ve been since I was 12 years old, I have no issue with swearing generally, I’m ex military, but having to listen 90 minutes every week to that is not acceptable.

What saddens me is that he is there with his own children who are young. I wonder what their vocabulary will be like?

He has an absolute right to do what he wants when he’s in his own home, but everyone else has a right not to have to consider it acceptable.

I did the same and then when I did a "f off ref" they then proceeded to have a full on argument with me for my so say double standards.

There is a vast difference to the odd swear word to a constant 90 mins of swearing, especially in front of children.

The electronic display even says bad language will not be tolerated.

Wasn't your warned about your bad language earlier on in the season?

I don't like to say this but it seems its a case of like father like son...

Are the police taking any further action against your son?

I mean, I’m not overly arsed about swearing and I’d always tell my lad not to repeat what he hears at the football around me but going on an internet forum is probably the last place to go if you’re looking for sympathy.

In the man city carabo semi final at the gate. I got warned at half time by the stewards about my language, which I.  felt had not been that bad if fruity, stewards where Def. Observing me second half . But I paid attention to the warning and no more was said.

Why was he not warned? And must have been ******* ****** ******* language to get arrested.

I find it strange that some people go to Ashton Gate for years without any problems and others just can’t avoid getting into confrontational situations

When I was a lad and going to the Gate with my dad, I was told, like many I should think, 'don't repeat the bad words you hear at football son'.

Wasn't an issue tbh and I didn't (until Tiny ****ing Pukis arrived)! ?

Cut @Red-Al some slack here.  If we're parents, we stand by our kids. You just do.

At the same time, it might be a salutary lesson that some policemen are not equipped with much patience or humour and if they tell you to stop swearing, then stop swearing. They have the force of the law behind them: you don't, even if you think they are being heavy-handed.

Very tough lesson, but when you're a young lad, you live and learn.

None. Why?

I think the point the poster was making is that the players and the coaching staff swear during the games which seems double standards if the authorities are clamping down on fans swearing.

Bloke got arrested in the street afterwards. Do you honestly believe it was for swearing and nothing else or cos he had a bit of edge about him and gave the copper a bit of unnecessary gob after being told to stop?

Don't generally have a problem with swearing but the bloke in the front of the South Stand calling everyone boring C***S for not joining in the bounce around was pushing it a bit.

On a slightly different subject I also hate being looked at as a day tripper, I can't afford to go every week anymore and decided to take my 8 years old for this game. But I was there during the Gary Johnson early days when we lost every game, I was there on a cold Tuesday watching O'Driscoll playing Marlon Harwood up front, I had hope in my heart when I saw the team and Matt Heywood was partnering David Partridge at centre back, I've earnt my stripes to pick and choose when I attend

Part timer!
