Popular Post Silvio Dante
Geoff is a genuinely great guy, and a top broadcaster. In lockdown, my under 9s team were lucky enough to be live on Radio Bristol and he was brilliant with them. My son then met him at Yate when he was broadcasting the Yeovil game - busy as hell but had time for everyone. Just one of the good guys. Popular Post Davefevs
Just a top man. Met him once at Charlton Farm, introduced myself as “Fevs from Twitter” and it was as if he’d known me for ages. Always a little shout out for my son too. Biggest compliment is the universal acceptance from City fans. He will be sorely missed, big boots to follow. He's the same character you hear on the air when he's not on the air, Geoff. One thing that I really liked about the man was his total commitment to local radio serving local sports fans. He knew some big names in the game, but was as happy talking to guys managing clubs far down the league structure.

Dr Balls
Always very straightforward on the radio. Also seems very humble and down to earth - none of the “Big I am” as a former pro on local radio. The fact that so many of us can so easily look past his Gas past is a measure of the man in itself. Also good knowledge of the local non-league and grassroots game around Bristol that will be very hard to replace. 8 minutes ago, Red-Robbo said: They are. Though the implications for local sports coverage haven't been made clear. Perhaps Geoff smelled which way the wind was blowing there.... I am sure you’re right. Regional programmes only on “local” BBC stations after 6pm might spell the end for all those early evening sports shows.

ralphindevon
An excellent second career at the BBC, not an easy job, especially starting out at an older age. Sports presenters seem to get more stick than anyone in the media, every tournament there’ll be people moaning about Adrian Childs, Gary Lineker, Mark Pougach, Laura Woods etc. So for Geoff to come from a Rovers stalwart to winning over the red half of the City tells you all you need to know. The chances of us getting as good a quality coverage from next season must be slim.

Robbored
Geoff always asked very probing questions of whoever he had as a guest. I really enjoyed it when Nige was on - they had played against each other in previous lives and chatted like old friends. Lots of mutual respect between them. He also spoke at Senior Reds a number of times and was always asked about playing against City. He had one amusing tale about Robbie Turner and explained the photo of him grabbing Bob Taylor by shirt by the throat - it wasn’t how it looked. He was telling Taylor to stop arguing with the referee otherwise he was looking at a sending off……top bloke is Geoff. cidered abroad
I remember seeing his father playing for Liverpool when they were in Second Division. Geoff wasn't the greatest footballer to earn a living but he was a good, honest defender back in the days when defenders could dish it out and take it back. He combined the fact that he’d actually played the game to a decent level with the ability to ask probing, well researched questions. That takes real skill. Virtually no chance that his replacement is going to be of the same calibre. As someone who has absolutely no time for Rovers the fact that he is universally liked in Bristol is a testament to him.
