Fair play to the long suffering fans of which there will be many, but football is no longer just a sport - it’s an ‘event’ and this is the latest in a line of examples of football being trendified for the less initiated / involved. Let them have their 15 mins - I’ll be very surprised if they get any further than League 1.

Kodjias Wrist
Its very annoying. Ok they had a ridicukous title challenge with Notts County but thats not what was highlighted. The documentary, the celeb owners, the 5 min segment on the BBC was all too far.

Big C
to be honest I like the story. When I first heard of the interest from the McReynolds company I thought it was just a publicity stunt but you can't deny that they have come through with not just the football club but the community as well

Probably more Liverpool and Everton support there than Wrexham.

Open End Numb Legs
As someone who loathes celebrity culture with an absolute passion I agree with the OP. This is all about the owners and not about sport. Good for the club and supporters right now but is it sustainable? The news media rams celebrities down our throats at every opportunity. I am tired of being TOLD who is a star. That is for us to decide, not the PR for the person involved. The stars should be the footballers, coaches and physios whilst the owners should sit quietly in the background.

GrahamC
Absolutely nauseating. The fact that they’re Welsh & the BBC has to find something for the disproportionate number of journalists they have to report on is definitely a factor, but the blanket coverage is farcical. Plenty of Championship sides doing very well like Coventry & Luton are getting a small fraction of the airtime they are. Shame that the number of Welsh sides in the league has returned to 4, be far happier myself if it was zero & they played in their own little league. firstdivision
It's funny how you can take against a club. I've never liked Wrexham since they knocked us out of both cups in the 1977-78 season. They were two leagues below us. We played out an amazing 4-4 draw at home in the FA Cup. 2-0 up, 4-2 down, 4-4. Thumped in the replay. I wonder what people will be thinking if/when they're beating us in the Championship in three years' time. See Luton.

Dastardly and Muttley
I work with a born and bred Wrexham fan here in Slough. ST holder who’s been going for years. He made a point that Ryan and Rob have bought normality in Wrexham. They’re both looking at owning houses in the area and are treated as locals when they’re in the town. Yes, everyone knows who they are, but what they’ve done for the community and the way they’ve integrated has been special. I still wanted Notts County to beat though. cityexile
I mean, its a show and its money, but don't mind it really. Less nauseating than the titles bought at the very top of the game. Owners at least having the appearance of buying in to the idea of it and not just all for show. Taps in to some warmth about grass roots football and 'how football used to be' a bit. TMWANG50
I was very cynical as the Beeb were giving them so much lovein but I actually watched a few of the series and you can see they are in it for a few good reasons as well as a vanity project. The fact they didn't quit after the first two failed years was a surprise to me as apparently they had 10 clubs under consideration before they picked Wrexham. Notts County have also spent well above their means (they've got away with it as Financial reporting doesn't have to be very sophisticated in the National League) so its not quite as black and white as some people like to make out in terms of player investment and thus why both were miles clear. It must be spreading as a retired NFL player and his wife are now investing in Burnley (apparently a lovely place!!!) https://www.skysports.com/nfl/news/11095/12870907/burnley-fc-nfl-star-jj-watt-and-wife-kealia-announce-investment-in-the-clarets

handsofclay
One of the greatest Hollywood stars of all time used to watch us play.... Cary Grant. But we didn't make a song and dance about it like these other clubs. Joe Jordan said that the reason he continued to live in Bristol is because when he is out people don't bother him, they acknowledge him but then leave him be. I like to think that's what makes us appeal to Hollywood stars and Bollywood ones for that matter. That they can come to Ashton Gate and enjoy the game and atmosphere in a relaxed fashion and not be bothered by the demands of fans. We can simply give them a nod and a smile of appreciation and concentrate on the match and not act any differently than if we were sat next to Joe Bloggs from Bemmy. * *Obviously, though, if one of our players nears goal it's best not to shout 'shoot!' if Alec Baldwin is the star sitting next to one. My post was a joke, but two of those actors have West Country homes and the other has one in the Cotswolds so - why not! (As long as they don't make one of their kids chairman) Would we be good if those actors came in and formed a holding company called Ocean's Eleven. I must say I'm looking forward to the One Show coverage when Boreham Wood go up via the play-offs !
robinforlife2
It's all well and good, but had they come over and bought us, pumped loads into the community and got us to the Premier League, we would be lapping it up big time, and if you say you wouldn't have, they I think you and I both know you're lying. Fair play to them I say.

Then we got stuffed in the replay....Ha!

Personally my pride would be greatest if a City side full of academy products could get us promoted, a golden generation if you like. Of course if AS goes in the summer that tells us where we stand in the big scheme of things but I genuinely would rather we didn't go up just due to a Hollywood type of connection. Rich arabs? Boom and bust? Not for me, I want strong foundations before celebrating. I don't want to see City do another 3 x division drop.

Fair play to them I say. This. They haven’t tried to buy a glamour club, they’ve revived a good traditional club in a rather depressed city, and revitalised the whole area in the process. I accept it’s hard on Notts County etc, but frankly every league has richer and poorer clubs, which is something that will never change. I think it’s a positive story all round. 6

It would be chaos (but the team Christmas parties would be epic)

Decided not to in the end, I'm glad to say, 3-0 I believe.
