Lack of Action Man
Okay, may be having a moan over a minor thing but seriously whoever is managing stock at the ground needs a fat steel toe-capped boot up their backside. Kiosks in the south stand running out of pies and pasties at half time! Wtf!! Though we then did have a fairly tasty burger from the van by the thatchers bar, at £22 for 2 burgers we won’t be buying there often.

Perhaps they should try selling club merchandise behind the kiosks so theres actually something to buy. Silvio Dante
To provide some balance here, considering the home sell out the half time beer queue moved exceptionally well in the Dolman as they’d pre poured loads. However £7:50 for a hot dog pre discount (for my son, not me) is robbery with violence.

Whole cabinet full of them in the south stand kiosk, not hard to see why. Get some more pasties in ffs. You could also argue the lack of food meant queues flowed more quickly… maybe.
Red-Robbo
I'd like to meet the genius who replaced the pasty concession in the Dolman with donuts. Maybe the crowds of kids that sit in the Lansdown like donuts at football, but the average age in the Dolman is about 62 - and I can tell you that English men just do not wanna munch donuts at football. It's a winter-based game FFS - and we're not Americans! 13

Red-Robbo
While we're on off-field moans - would it kill them to put up the halftime scores on the big screen, rather than read them out. Through the Dolman PA, which is presumably a matt black, stacked 60W Midi system bought from Tandy's in the mid-80s, the guy might as well have been reciting Burmese poetry. We always used to put the scores up. Why not now? You've got big screens - use them. 8

Having covered pre-match & into the interval..? I'm sure they'd prefer that to having loads left in the hope of shifting them at the end of the game. Running out during half time seems pretty good to me & nobody is going to starve in the coming hour until they can get something elsewhere.

At half-time, they briefly played some "lounge muzak", not only that but played it at an appropriate volume - so that for a blissful 10 minutes I could actually hold a conversation with the person sat right next to me, ie about 12 inches away, without having to shout myself hoarse. They have a cafe like place where you could sit, it was basic but functional. I only had chips but pies etc looked decent and it was cheap. It wasn't inside the actual stadium, but in the carpark/grounds. It was probably for home fans mainly but a few of us ate in there. Load of kids faffing around and about 6 pint glasses with a bit of cider in each whilst kid tries to pour a pint and fails, tipping the bits into the pint. I got my money put back on my card after a faff to see who could do it. Went around the corner to see about 20 pints lined up in a concession, gave that a miss and ended up in the Nest next to the Dolman entrance where I got a proper pint of Gold from the tap. CodeRed
Solution to all this running out of pies/pasties is simple: purchase 2 Clarks pies from the van by the park for less than the cost of 1 inside the stadium. W-S-M Seagull
I turned up quite late. Around half 2. Went to one of the outside bars and the card machines were playing up. Took ages for them to actually set it up to pay on multiple machines and then it wouldn't accept contactless from phones, only from card. It then took an age to process the transaction. Staff were quite rude too about it as if I was the problem for simply wanting to buy a beer and didn't even offer an apology for the time it took to pay. Half time went to the other outside bar and they had similar problems. I noticed they are using different card machines this season so probably something to do with that. Things sometimes go wrong in life, that can't be helped, but poor customer service can be helped. It's such a basic thing.

Exactly. They might look like kids to @bcfc01but they have to be at least 18 years old to serve alcohol, or at least be supervised by an adult, it's the law. Also as you say it's minimum wage and it's hard in the hospitality industry (or retail where I am experienced) to get staff to work weekends (and I include Friday nights in this) as they all want to be out with their friends. So @bcfc01 give them a break as at least they are there, working when you are having fun. Without young staff there really would be less choice for you. Be a nice customer and treat them like you would want a relative of yours treated, we all started off in work once.

While I agree about the cost, I had a steak and ale pie before kick off and it was lush mate. Best I've had for a while, last season I was disappointed with the pasties though. I have to say, and I know trying to stock food for 20,000 plus people is a nightmare, the hot display cabinets were hardly rammed with 15 minutes to K.O. Another problem would be restocking. If you had some not selling in one area it would be virtually impossible to move them to another with the concourse rammed at H.T. As others have said, and it is annoying, running out is preferable to having stock unsold.
Harry R
The coffee bar that I think sold Bristol Twenty coffee at the Atyeo end of the Lansdown was great. Went there every game for a coffee. Crap that it's gone.
Bristol Rob
I remember when Bristol City/Sport were all about the Sugar Smart scheme, these days they champion doughnuts and use social media to offer a fiver off the League Cup energy drink!

Agree about the pasties last year, though I do like getting one - it’s the sort of thing I’ll only ever buy when at football.

Steak and ale pie was the highlight of my day genuinely best pie I’ve had at any ground
myol'man
I was going to start this thread in Non-Football chat but thought it would get more attention on here. From my own experience in the Dolman concourse, the options of food and drink as well as waiting time, especially at half-time was worse than last season. The "Bear and Robins" outlet just inside the Dolman turnstiles has gone, now replaced be a standard outlet. They only had lager or Guinness on sale, no cider or ale option at all. They had no food for sale meaning if you wanted a pie and a pint you had to queue twice at two different outlets. The former outlet at the back wall of the Dolman concourse has been replaced by a doughnut shop! I would have thought that more suitable in the Upper Lansdown family area, not an area packed with thirsty blokes (& girls!) I know of others who gave up waiting as the service was so slow, and many people were still queueing when City scored. What was it like in the rest of the ground?
Rocking Red Cyril
I tend to go in Lansdown when I am able to go. And have long given up queueing at half time. But on my way out for my half time dode of nicotine. The queues did seem longer and where still long on my way back to my seat in the Upper Lansdown. Less queues and better food options if you use the vendor just outside the turnstiles strikes me
richyy66
Yep i gave up waiting at Halftime in the Dolman Concourse. They seem to have halved the outlets and the number of staff. I know somebody who has worked in the Dolman Concourse for a number of years. She was told not required this year due to outlets being made smaller and reduction in food provided. Not that i go there for food but the queues seemed to be worse than previous seasons.
Topper 123
Yep club need to address this , we need quality food / drink and service because we’re paying for it and queueing twice for a pie and a pint is not on as there is not time

Henry
It’s just another example of the club not caring about the fans experience. Its okay, we have a CEO still settling in after 6months and a SC&T holding them to account..

Lansdown before the game there are so many staff but lots doing nothing. Also doesn't help when one is being shown the ropes on working the till! Surely this could have been done before?! So Amateurish. Edited August 8, 2023 by Super
