brady bunch
He just said he "had a knock in training" and would not be playing. That's almost certainly all true! everyone gets a "knock" in every training session.. The facts are the club was not willing to risk real injury with so much money on the line is also almost certainly true, but the club and NP probably cannot say that without "outrage" on here and elsewhere.... Note the difference to how NP reported AW's injury, lots of back ground and technical info on it....

haggis_farewell
I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt here. Knock in training made it touch & go for Saturday, so decided not to risk him and aggravate an slight injury, particularly if Bournemouth were making serious noises. Of course with a bid in and medical yesterday, situation changed and no way he can start for us. One thing I really like about Nige is he rarely treats the fans as fools. 1
italian dave
Doesn’t really matter. Probably just as well he didn’t play Saturday if a move was that close - last thing we needed was another Burnley performance from him! And, as others have said, there’s a difference between ‘he picked up an knock in training’ and ‘he is injured and that’s the only reason he’s not been selected’.
LondonBristolian
I don't think Pearson was lying but I wonder if his mood in his post-match press conference last night was influenced by him feeling the way events unfolded make it look like he was either lying or out of the loop completely. I think the other factor - without wishing to cast any aspersions on Scott personally - is that a player with a knock might consider their availability slightly differently if they were on the cusp of a big move. In those circumstances, it could be that a player doesn't want to risk aggravating an injury if they know they are on the cusp on a transfer even if they would likely play through the same injury if that transfer were not on the horizon. Marina's Rolls Royce
What Pearson could have said: " We are in delicate final talks with Bournemouth and given that there isn't huge interest in Alex- the club needs to cash in because we need the funds and the risk of missing out/AS getting a major injury like Conway, Atkinson/Benarous is greater than the benefit of keeping him another few months. We have little choice to sell our best players and hopefully we will be empowered to make some signings with such a big price agreed and we also hope that no one will try to pull our pants down on any new signings" Alternatively he could have just deflected, remained professional and just said" He's got a minor injury". 11

We could always ask every club to come down and play a nice open and slightly disorganised game for us instead!! I also reckon the CEO will know down to the last penny what Pearson will be able to spend. The balanxe od the midfield and this was linked to availability more than tactics was why we struggled v Preston or a reason anyway IMO but that's probably for another thread. Hopefully we have a Plan A if Scott stayed and a Plan B with targets on a short and not so short list if he goes.
E.G.Red
Lying is a very harsh and emotive word. He could still have had a slight knock that we wouldn't have risked him last night in a cup match against lower league opposition regardless of if he had been undertaking a medical at Bournemouth
