Loco Rojo
I can understand SL not wanting to/reduce the spend or try to recoupe some funds (from the AS money) and also make the financial position of the club much better (bringing the salary spend down) if he was looking to sell or try to attract new investment quickly....but is there any real progress on that front? If not, then what is the positive outcome he's after? I'm very confused. I do feel sorry for Nigel - as he says, he's the one in the firing line with these related questions when really others should be setting out the strategy/stepping up to anwer these. He’s the the manager of the football team, not the CEO or Director of Football or Chairman or owner. Even Richard Gould, who I liked, seemed to leave it up to Nige to have to endlessly try and explain to people the absolute mess we were in. You even see it with this issue around loans, Nige is the one explaining how expensive PL youngsters on loan are and how we can’t afford them, and then that ends up with people criticising Nige for being stubborn in not wanting loans. Joke. Popular Post LondonBristolian
For me, the major thing is the lack of transparency and honesty about where we are. If Steve or Jon Lansdown, or the CEO, came out and said "we're trying to make the club sustainable and we're not going to spend money. We think our squad is good enough to finish mid-table and that's our expectation but we're not going to fund a promotion push" then, disappointing though it would be, I could respect the position. What I can't respect is making noises about promotion being the expectation and constantly hinting at disappointment in the manager for not achieving perceived targets and leaving the manager alone to answer questions about the lack of spending. If we can't spend the Scott money for a good reason, fine, but the CEO should be fronting that decision and explaining it to the fans - not leaving the manager to take the flak. That's just shitty behaviour in any profession. 52 2 13

Since then we have made a player sale that trumps any other single income stream and yet the budget remains at its original level (and presumably the targets despite having reduced assets).

All we can do is get behind our lads and the coaching staff and try make a good run of this season and hope it doesn't fall off rather quickly. Take it game by game, sort the home form out and it could be an enjoyable season. With the constrictions, squad size, injuries and reliance on youth we're gunna be in for a tough season but every season in this division has its ups and downs. Admin Ian M Posted August 31, 2023 Admin Share Posted August 31, 2023 I feel like the atmosphere around the club is likely to become pretty toxic over the coming months, as we already starting to see on the forum. Whether Pearson stays, walks or gets fired, there are a significant amount of City fans that whilst grateful for much of the infrastructure that the Lansdowns have built, feel that they have done/are doing Pearson dirty. On the flip side there’s another significant amount who believe their other contributions outweigh this or fully believe we need this austerity to be a club that makes a financial profit each season moving forward. Either way, each group has very different views than the other and things won’t be plain sailing now.

Excellent summary and accurate depiction of the situation.

It's extraordinary how time and time again history repeats itself under Steve Lansdown. Spot on. And to think some of us were joking about LJ coming back! I’ve now got anxiety issues of seeing a grinning SL with LJ one side of him and Holden the other with the headline “Unfinished Business”.
