What's with the gimp mask look?...

Let's not forget that our club has a time-honoured tradition of gimping. John Atyeo famously attributed his prolific goalscoring prowess to his weekend gimping. Jimmy Lumsden would sometimes give teamtalks in full gimp suit attire. Late 90s City full back, Gerard Lavin was known in the dressing room a 'Latex Lavin', such was his penchant for tight shiny black undergarments.

Good on the lads for celebrating this...

I was going to say the same, at the end of the day they are also Bristol City supporters, fair play to them for supporting the club

Are we really that shallow that we are passing judgement about how people choose to dress at a game

Sorry can't stand football violence, they deserve all the mockery that goes their way.  I wonder if Stone Island ever get pissed off with people mangling their brand with hoolies.

Quite happy to judge people if they’re an embarrassment to the rest of us.

It may come as a surprise to you but Stone Island is a top end designer label that many people away from football wear

There have been difference fashion trends on the terraces way back to the 70's when English teams started playing in Europe, not everyone that wears Stone Island is a hooligan and I am sure not every football hooligan wears Stone Island

Where is there any indication that these people are a) involved in football violence or b) an ‘embarrassment’?

Haven’t got a problem with it, very popular look in Europe and other clubs fans in the UK wear similar. The ‘Ultra’ look is becoming more of a thing in this country these days and in fairness Section 82 have been using elements of this culture for a long time and I think they do a great job.

How are they an embarrassment?

Simple - they look stupid and pathetic and they’re associating themselves with our club. If it was a photo of teen Gasheads dressed like that there would be a storm of mockery on here. As there has been in the past.

I am aware it's a top end brand.  I'm also aware it's a uniform status, bit like that shit tracksuit brand in the 80's and 90's.

In your opinion.  I’m guessing you are an incredibly snappy dresser then given how you think these guys are so embarrassing?

I guess they're teenagers and most of us might now admit to dressing up and looking a bit ridiculous going to City matches with our mates in our youth.

In those days it was long hair, denim jacket and silk scarves tied round the wrists for me, and skinhead cuts with white butchers coats for many others  - no doubt 1 or 2 of them on here who would think of themselves as respectable pensioners now.

This lot look like they were just having a laugh posing for a photo and no doubt changed out of that stuff long before they got to the ground - in the 70's we didn't!

Exactly - not sure why the ridicule. If that’s how they want to dress then whatever.

Exactly. Fair play to them. Look the type of lads to probably stand and sing and vocally support the team, something many of our support especially at home could learn a thing or two about ?

Yeah I think it's the fighting bit that lets it down. Or worse the posing like you can fight.

So you judge people by the way they dress?

Incredible that someone could feel that strongly about them

Yet OTIB goes into meltdown if a naive away fan wears their team’s shirt in “our” stand, with plenty of contributors honestly opining that they deserve to get attacked. Double standards.

It’s nothing to do with being well dressed - it’s the association of the Ultra look with Italian fascists (and the masks with sex offenders.) Apart from that I’m sure they’re very neat.

I remember seeing them at Man Utd’s ground

It’s all very well enjoying a day at the football but the sign says “Bristol City’s Finest”. If that’s City’s finest then God help us

Now you’re really being weird…..people who wear black are Italian fascist associates and also sex offenders?
I best update my wardrobe and remove said coloured items. You must know about associations of which I’m not aware.
Hope you’ve never been to Copenhagen as all black is practically a uniform over there for the young and well dressed!

If you don’t know about the links between Italian Ultras and neo fascists, that’s not my fault, nor is it weird. Nor of course the echoes of the British Union of Fascists (the Blackshirts) under Oswald Mosley. Not all Ultras are fascists, but some are, and the look is not just a coincidence.

These kids of course may well also be unaware and blindly following a fashion. But the masks and Casuals tag suggest a desire to link with violence and that’s enough to condemn them in my eyes.

Don’t try and give me lessons on football culture.  Nor give me your smug condescending bollocks on what I do and don’t know about history just because you’ve made yourself look a fool.   You are trying to conflate a group of young lads who are following a football fashion /  fad with something completely different which is completely not there from that photo.   There are ultras everywhere - all over the world and making out they are all fascist sympathisers is bullshit and you should be the one who’s embarrassed for even thinking that they would have such leanings - not them for wearing a bit of SI or CP Co.
