Silvio Dante
It’s a long time ago when we were punching it out with them at the top of league one and they had Keogh/Sharp up top. However, what’s coming out of Scunnie currently is wild. We’ll all be aware of their charitable status of playing the youth team against Rovers in their last league game - they then went straight through the national league and are in NLN. Multiple signings made, generally players too good for that level. But then, things started to take a turn. A chap called David Hilton took charge earlier this year. The Athletic, earlier this month, published an investigation into Hilton and uncovered he had served time for fraud. Hilton then issued via the club a long and fairly ranty statement. So far, so dodgy owner. Earlier this week, Scunthorpe began banning fans who had criticised the club/Hilton on social media. This didn’t go down well and Hilton’s response when it was pointed out was..interesting… Scunnie deleted their Social media shortly after. Anyway, today it’s back. And Scunnie have released a statement saying they’re departing Glanford Park and playing games at Gainsborough Trinity. One problem with this though… SL grinds my gears sometimes, but things could definitely be worse….! 4 1

RoystonFoote'snephew
I'm sorry for Scunthorpe but am I surprised, not really. Any dodgy dealer can buy a football club now. The football authorities have no adequate safeguards to prevent such transactions and even less heart or authority to do something about it. The thing is this is no joke. Football is the national sport, and more than that football clubs are a vital amenity to the local community. I would have the National Audit Office undertake a root and branch review of football finances, the rules that govern them and how they are administered and applied. I would have no truck with cries of government interference from FIFA or UEFA on the grounds that it is not purely a football matter but a community matter and that we will not take notice of organisations that handle more brown envelopes than the Post Office. BS3City
Gotta be honest I despised them when they handed promotion to the Blue Few. But no fans deserve such treatment...

fgrsimon
Surely basic English Language competency should be part of the Fit and Proper ownership test. When you launch abusive rants online and misspell the first two words of said rant, it doesn't reflect well on the club for a start.
Davefevs
From stuff I’ve read in the past the “fit and proper person” test is little more than a) have they got the money and b) do they have any convictions.

22A
Announced on SSN this morning the owner has withdrawn funding from the club and they will play home games at Gainsborough's ground. Gainsborough have now stated they were not asked about this and have not consented to ground sharing.
Robin101
All the more sad considering Scunthorpe has to be one of the most deprived areas of the country. I’m sure the football club means an awful lot to a lot of people up there - as, of course, most football clubs do. Hope they’re rescued. Having to gain stronger clearance, having to accept as part of takeover conditions the EFL having such monitoring powers as they see fit for the first 2 years. They made some significant updates in Autumn 2020 and clubs seem to have been tweaking it since. No idea about the National League though.
