We've  never produced a striker like this from the academy before, his finishing is as good as anything in this league and he's only 21?!

Fitness dependant he has to start at Leeds on Saturday where we are unlikely to get many chances so need to give ourselves the best chance of taking them.

Any chance we can just appreciate him without worrying about nest eggs and the like? Plenty of other threads to have a moan on.

My thoughts could we play James / Williams alongside Knight with Tommy in that more advanced role ?

I mentioned last week, that last summer (2022) Tommy was being groomed to provide cover for Weimann as the 10 in what was WSM.  So, yes, he could undoubtedly play there, he might even find he gets more space to be lethal.

I bloody loves ‘I’m, I do!

Good ball from TGH to Kingy too.  He (TGH) had a bit of a mixed night, needs minutes, but him and Dickie pinged some lovely diags to create openings for us.

Did O'Neills put that left badge on?

Looks straight to me, but maybe I’ve gone cross-eyed!

Would be crazy to start him on Saturday before a two week break.  By all means bring him in with 10-15 mins to go, but let him build up his fitness so he can be available for the 35 games to come after Leeds.

We ALWAYS sell our best players ffs its the plan to build save for the future....sh1te plan but its the plan, Scott, Bell and Conway would have shook this div up and moved us forward. There will be clubs sniffing around next window and he will be gone next summer...sustainability.

Only hope is that Conway and NP stay and SL finds a buyer....small hope imo.

Even at his age he's already the complete striker.

Strong, a turn of pace, useful in the air, excellent movement and absolutely lethal in front of goal.

He's got that rare natural instinct, quality finishing with head and feet. When he's on the pitch I get the feeling he's going to score more often than not, give him the service and he's clinical.

Most natural striker i've seen in a City shirt in quite some time, it's great to have him back we've missed him as we did last season too. UTC

Be very surprised if he doesn't get a call-up to the senior Scotland squad in the next 12 months.

Looks an elite prospect to me. Two quality finishes this evening, and a match winning performance.

Will be in their euros squad. Might even overtake Adams and Dykes.

Concerned no new deal for him at present, 12 months left this summer. Big priority, we have to keep Tommy. Just not sure whether Scott will be an influence on him. However Scott didn’t have close allegiance to us, Tommy’s family are all City and he’s a local lad. Fingers cross his heart gets him to sign.

There will be a new deal for him but ultimately if a prem club come calling offering him top flight football and quadrupling his pay there is very little we can do about it

And given the problems he's had with hamstring injuries, that might put a few off.

Worth noting (but not worth a new thread) that we're 10 game in, about quarter of the season, and Alex Scott is still 'some way off' being fit to play for Bournemouth, so if we had resisted and rejected the offer than came in for him, you have to wonder what price we'd have got in January for him given he wouldn't have play for us for the duration of his time out.

If we can keep Tommy fit, I can see then end of the season resulting in a 'Alex, who?' response from a lot of people as (hopefully) Tommy continutes his comeback and continues to score.

Hopefully, a new deal is on the table and he is open to signing it, he has seen two of his mates get their moves to Premier League clubs without City being difficult about it, so he might well think.... 'I'm playing, I'm developing, and if this keeps up, my chance will come' rather than 'Oooh, first offer, I'm out of here!'.

Love him, what a player! Bournemouth scouts will be watching, nest egg is at the ready….

That nest egg will come in handy one day. We may be able to bid 50 mil to get that Scott lad from Bournemouth.

And not just in looks- the first goal was very Sheareresque...

If big Al watches that it'll be like looking in the mirror 😆

First one reminded me of Shearer’s first one for Blackburn.

Second one was Ibrahimovic like.

Just rewatched the last part of the game (first 75 mins were on fast forward!)

I did notice that with all the substitutions going on around the 80th minute, although TC came on at 78 mins, the game didn’t restart until 80.04, and he hit the net at 80.44 - so actually 40 secs of play until his goal.

Any quicker City substitute goal?

Fingers crossed, do you think he is likely to sign a new deal?

Dunno.  He only signed last July when he’d not made the impression he went to making last season.  So I doubt he’s on much (in the grand scheme of things).

Think some will be down to a combo of loyalty, injuries, what might be on offer versus are any clubs circling, ready to bid in January.

At the end of the day we could offer him a top-wage tomorrow and he might still go in January.  No wage we can offer him will compare to what he could get in the Prem…and that is where he will go at some point.

We need to strike quickly, deal to summer 27 or 28 if we can.  It won’t offer us tonnes of protection though.  But I also think Nige is comfortable paying players what they are width regardless of age, homegrown etc.

Tommy deserves to be a high earner imho.

If he stays well I think it likely he will get 20 goals  this season, and I fully expect him to go to the Euros assuming we qualify. That last point is not a given as we, like BCFC,have an astonishing ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

He did train with the senior players during the summer prior to the Norway game.

* We being Scotland.

All that aside if he does get a decent haul of goals he will attract interest, that is a given, so I agree we need to get a new contract signed ASAP to protect his value.

Obviously that won’t put EPL clubs off, I think Tommy is the real deal and will hopefully have a stellar career.

That's an interesting point.
Many years ago, home grown players would not get the money that player we paid money for would.
Not sure it was a deliberate strategy, but you had to tempt players in, while those from the ( equivalent of ) Academy would be paid relatively lowly.

On the plus side, I don't see Prem Clubs throwing money at Tommy just yet. Gives us time to tie him down to a deal. I rate him, but to start getting the "Press" that Scott did, he needs a 20 goal , or near , season IMO.
