Kevin Keegan could have been a City Player.

Alan Dick’s  book is a very interesting read and the paragraphs on the Keegan transfer.
Tony Collins watched Keegan play for Scunthorpe and immediately rings Dicks to say we have got to sign this kid.
Travels down over night and meets Dicks in the morning . They contact the Scunthorpe manager and agree terms only for Tony Collins to rain back and say I would like to see him play again.
Later the same day Bill Shankly buys him for Liverpool for £25000.

Moral of the story trust your instincts!!!

In his book ,Tony Collins says it was the worst decision he made, regretted it every time he saw Keegan play.
We had £25k to spend and needed more players , Collins had even agreed the fee, but because they needed more bodies he hesitated.

I bet Keegan regrets it too 🤔 😂

Yet, today if someone reported to Jurgen Klopp "There's a talented 19 year old playing for Scunthorpe, we really must sign him". They'd never be asked to scout potential players again.

For those of an age where they didn't get to see him play, Keegan was all action, everywhere. Probably could be considered the first "10" playing off Toshack in particular, but also others. He seemed to be able to run all day.

Thought mcghee did play for us.. We let him go like colin lee....

Correct. We abandoned our youth policy when we were promoted so binned them off. Bad move.

Paul Allen was outstanding on loan from Swindon, way to good for that level, he let it be known he wanted to sign in the post

Stamps were much cheaper then.

Didn't we scout Watkins when he was on loan at Weston from Exeter. Another one missed

We chose to sign O’Dowda from Oxford instead. You may have an inkling whose decision that was.

We enquired about Michael Owen on loan prior to him making his Liverpool debut.

He went on to score against us in a friendly a few months later I believe (about 1996/97 time)

Came on as sub and is still the quickest player I have seen live.

Then his hamstrings went, still very quick, but not "that" quick....
