Officials

Referee: Darren England
Assistant Referees: James Mainwaring and Alex James
Fourth Official: Stephen Martin

England last officiated the Irons in Premier League action back in December 2021 - a 4-1 win for David Moyes' side away at Watford.

The 38-year-old oversaw Hull City's 1-1 draw with fellow EFL Championship side Birmingham City in the FA Cup third round, and has officiated four Premier League games so far this season.

England also has two showpiece finals under his belt, refereeing the 2016/17 EFL League Two Play-Off final between Blackpool and Exeter City, which Blackpool won 2-1, and the 2018/19 FA Youth Cup final which Liverpool won, by beating Manchester City on penalties.

England will be assisted by James Mainwaring and Alex James.

Mainwaring is a highly experienced assistant, who has ample experience in the Premier League and across UEFA European competitions. He has run the line at 17 Premier League matches this season.

James, meanwhile, worked with Mainwaring in the FA Cup third round match between Middlesbrough and Aston Villa - a game which Villa won 1-0 - and is a regular assistant referee in the EFL. He has worked on 20 Championship matches this season.

Stephen Martin will undertake fourth official duties for Tuesday's replay.

The official from Staffordshire took charge of Maidstone United's 1-0 win over Stevenage in the FA Cup third round and has also refereed eleven Championship matches this campaign.

The Video Assistant Referee will not be in operation but Goal Line Technology will.

I'd be lying if I said that the Preston result hadn't stolen some of the wind from my sails before this match. It's the hope that kills you when it comes to City; I'm happy with us storming a league season and I can get my head around/get used to us being shit all year, what I struggle with is the yo-yoing between 'we might make a run for the play-offs' one minute and 'get used to ending 15th come the end of the year so results don't tank my mood,' the next.

This said, I'll be there and cheering with everyone else.

I'm in a funny place with this game, even after Cardiff I came home hopeful for the season. Watford raised hope again then we get Brum & Millwall. Went to West Ham for the day out and we play well, just to fade away at Preston.

I really hope we turn up tomorrow, play like we can and put them under pressure. Good team, but hit by injuries and players whining that they have to play instead of going on holiday. Good time to play them in theory.

Looking forward to the game, but a bit apprehensive.

We need a good start and can't let them start like they did last game, we could be out of the game in 20 minutes.

Shame about their holiday, hopefully in their heads they are on the beach anyway.

Of course hope we win but, seem to be a goalscorer short of a "11 pack" and remain prone to defensive "lapses" make some noise and get at them and we have a chance.

Fair chance it could go to penalties 🫣

Yeah I agree.  I think a draw, hopefully not a bore one.  If we get a performance like we did at their place I’ll be very happy.  Looking forward to it.

Capacity crown in BS3 under the lights - the Gate should be bouncing, I just hope we don't concede an early goal and it goes flat. Alternatively an early goal for us would get our tails up and who knows what could happen from thereon in!

Let's show everyone what we're about. Big night too for the pubs of BS3, don't forget! And those with parking spaces rented out ha ha

Stupid question, I guess you can scan the bar code in the emailed ticket rather than actually having to print it? I don’t know why this wouldn’t work but thought I had read you had to print it?

It says on the ticket, albeit in small writing so easy to miss, that you can just scan the code

Up and down and up and down I'm afraid it's always the way. A few good wins strung together, and it gets all our hopes up and then out of the blue we experience the odd dismal play and result. The Preston result was very disappointing, and I thought bugger who cares about the Hammers replay. But guess what we City supporters are used to the inconsistent results.

I will be cheering on at around 0400am my time in OZ. My gut feel is though a Hammers win 2-1 but my heart is obviously a reverse of that and at least a good cup run this season for us which would bring some great morale all round. Coyredsssssssssss

Great post JB, do you remember Alf Garnett / Warren Mitchell who was a great actor, and I will always remember him as one of the great Hammers supporters. You got to admit 'IM FOREVER BLOWING BUBBLES" is a classic. Let's hope the Hammers fans tonight will be kept quiet.

Thanks City oz, yep remember Alf Garnet from my youth, Till Death us Apart was quite a radical bit of TV back in the day.

Are we allowing them to bring their ‘Bubble Machine’ this time?

I hope not. Club and fans alike should be working together to turn AG into an intimidating fortress, not somewhere welcoming all comers with open arms.

Imagine if that was the case, would put the emphasis on the losing team to go for it in extra time!

That’s not a bad idea actually. It might avoid the boring stalemate we often see in Extra Time in knockout matches.

Have an immediate sudden death penalty shootout first and then the losing team gets an opportunity to overturn the result in 15 mins of Extra Time.

Would liven things up quite a bit.

Even better.

I would like to see the old NASL shoot-outs, players running at the keeper 1v1 from 25 yards and have 10 seconds to score.

Alf Garnett was certainly a West Ham fan, but, in real life, Warren Mitchell was actually a Tottenham Hotspurs fan.

I used to love that programme, and remember nearly being punished in my Junior School as a result.

Mind you, it probably wasn't the best idea to call my miserable English teacher a silly moo.

If that was the worst language you picked up from it you did well.

Memory fades, but I don’t recall any really bad language.

There was obviously a lot of racism and sexism, I really don’t think of the series as being riddled with swearing.

I recall there was a lot of fuss about the language, but I think ‘bloody’ was about as bad as it got. That was extreme on tv in the 1960s!

I thought it was Arsenal, although that might have been Eric Morecambe, or even Ernie Wise.

And before anybody mentions it, Eric Morecambe supported and was Vice President of Luton.

Eric often told the story how once, when Luton were 2-0 down at half time, supporters chanted, “What do you think of it so far?” to which he replied, “Rubbish”.
