Since when did he turn into a love child of Vinnie Jones and Zidane??

Past 3 or 4 weeks he's been a psycho 😆

No no;  a reincarnation of personages such as...Thresher / Kellard / Gow

He's got a contract to play for.

Great to see Williams in the last few weeks, his most consistent spell for the club in my view. Hope he can both keep this up and stay fit until the end of the season.

Absolutely unreal. 1st name on the teamsheet for me currently. Outstanding today, absolutely everywhere. Rattling heads. Proper old school general.

Old school is bang on. You don't see many players nowadays who play with that much fire in their belly. He's like a 90s midfielder.

Unfortunately players like that are being eradicated from the game. It’s a shame because players like that are exactly what we want to see. Body on the line for 90 mins giving every ounce.

He wouldn't get on with VAR!

Lovely to see a bit of spite and gamesmanship from someone in our shirt for a change.

An absolute menace. Done them like a kipper for the sending off and he does not stop chirping either.

By the way, what a refreshing game without VAR. Added to it and loved the way the players went about it with freedom living on the edge.

How it should be.

Typified the fight and spirit in the team in a way that reminded me of Gerry Gow 50 odd years ago, snapping into tackles and riling the opposition .

However, what GG could get away with back then is not the same as today, so Williams was lucky to stay on the pitch.

P.S. Still has a bit to do to reach GG's level of all round performance though.

I'd absolutely hate him if he played.for someone else. But he doesn't 😀

He was a big part of why we won tonight. Really got under their skin. He's a good footballer too!

To my mind that’s always the sign of a good midfielder, Robbie Savage was much the same, got under your skin if he was on the other side, but you loved him in your midfield. Gets the team going too at times, a tasty tackle and everyone ups it a notch

Always used to think teams who went up from this league had a horrible CDM. A Shaun Derry type.

Not saying we’re going to win the league, but we’ve got that position filled at least.

Finally got his legs back and he’s the player we thought we were buying.

BBC have Williams as the 14th best player in our side in there ratings, I guess they were watching a different match to me as I thought he was excellent for us tonight and ran the midfield,

He could easily have collected a yellow for the challenge on Ings in the 1st half. Great to see the crunching tackles, but he needs to keep them clean. Thought Matty James played well too, calm and assured.

Those ratings are never worth anything as anyone can vote on them, just a bunch of salty West Ham fans throwing a tantrum because we didn't lie down for them

I mean, objectively it could well have been red. EFL more usually yellow unless ref has an excellent view, with VAR if it’s referred it’s going to be a red.

Williams to us now is what Bryan Robson was to Man U back in the day . An absolute leader on the pitch who loves a tackle and has a touch of the devil about him . Been a long time coming after all his injuries but is outstanding now !

Tackles get the crowd going, he made a few tonight.

Was delighted when we signed him…such a shame his first two years were blighted / wasted.  Imho he played pretty well last season too, but had minutes managed.  That’s allowed him the opportunity to gradually build that robustness up.

His recent performances have been very good.  Certainly gonna make for some interesting discussions re contracts!

He must be really enjoying this spell, nice one Joe.

oh, yeah, and Matty James wasn’t far behind tonight either.

None of our games have VAR. In fact, the only game we have ever played with VAR was the reverse fixture.

Now they were hard men. Mike Sumerbee who could look after himself on a football pitch, was battered by the Threshing Machine and still came back for more.

I was shocked when I saw the odds for him to make 2+ fouls tonight, a combination of him being the wonderful shithouse he is, Tommy scoring and city getting the win means I’m £400 richer tonight. Cheers Joe lad 😂

But yeah like others have said, first name on the team sheet atm. Let’s pray he can stay fit because we’re finally seeing the player we knew was in there and the team is benefiting hugely. Nobody else in the squad can play the role he does, and he's doing it superbly this season.

Think someone mentioned recently this is incorrect. Sheffield United away in the FA Cup had VAR a few years ago

Yes, it was me. VAR saw Alfie Mawson sent off for handling on the goal line. United scored from the resulting penalty.

Swings and roundabouts given tonight and possible incidents but wonder if VAR would've given us a penalty v Man City in the Cup last season, about 15 mins in.

Felt nailed on and yet.

Yeah I know, I meant as a spectacle to watch, bearing in mind the opposition play week in week out with it.

Offer him a 1 year deal so when we are promoted next year he can then leave because we can’t have him in The prem with VAR!!!

Though...based on recent performances and if (!) he stays fit, he is worthy of at least a 2 year deal at a minimum Championship level club. Maybe back at Bolton (if they go up) or a Millwall/Preston/Blackburn type club.

City run the risk of losing Williams IMO if we only offer a 1 year deal.

I wonder if both he and TGH will get a retro ban. Prob not Williams as the ref saw it but TGH was ridiculous, I would discipline for that internally, he could have cost us the game. You have to keep your cool.

I as joking I was saying that if we went up he would get sent off every week cos of var

I get that he was lucky last night as that may well have been a red on review, but it’s not like he puts tackles that naughty in every week.

No chance Williams will get a retrospective ban, it wasn’t THAT bad. TGH maybe though, only realised how bad it was when I watched the highlights back, silly really but luckily we got away with a couple tonight

Williams was booked wasn't he so they can't do anything about that now can they?
