How the bloody hell did we let these win it three years ago.

Because a lot has changed since then, I'd argue that based on our performances so far that Switzerland would have sent us home too.

On the one hand you look at the potential route to the final of Slovakia, Switzerland and say Austria, and think that’s pretty good. On the other, Switzerland and Austria have looked really impressive and as good as anyone. So big names aside, we would definitely need to raise our game significantly to stand a chance.

No more "it's coming Rome" (whatever that actually meant"

More like "they're going home"

“It’s coming Rome” ended three years ago. Said in jest in response to the perceived arrogance of England fans. It’s not that deep.

Germany crumbled for a period of 2/3 tournaments, but they're in a much better place than they have been since 2016. Rebuilding nicely and some gigh quality young players in Musiala and Wirtz.

Italy are so lacking in talent. Just solid, unspectacular players with very little character.

I'm not sure about France. Better on paper than on the pitch imo. Griezmann isn't the menace he once was and beyond Mbappe they don't have many goalscorers.

Spain are interesting. Not many players that could sell a product but they're clicking again.

Mostly agree, perjosd they aged together Germany.

Tend to agree on the rest although Chiesa and Insigne, Immobile was in prime years and delivered goals or could and there was a strong attacking left back who had a bad injury in 2021.

On paper vs a lot of sides we should be well placed but our balance seems suspect and I'm not so sold on some aspects. The LB problem for one.

Absolutely they would.

If we win tomorrow I can't say I'm looking forward to us trying to break the Swiss down. Very solid and experienced outfit.

I think their back 3 and keeper Sommer (Serie A keeper of the season) have something like 350 caps between them.

To a degree although this is rather dismissive of the very good midfield unit we were up against.

We can be quite dismissive over here though, if they aren't shining in our top League eh well.

Fair comment Mr P - I haven’t studied any side other than England in this or any other tournament. I really have no idea how good the Italian midfield was or is now. All I do know is they failed to qualify for the last World Cup and England always seems to try and win games 1-0 and gets caught out often.

Fair, I have some ties to Italy so I am little defensive if I ultimately support England.

Won't Labour the point but they missed a penalty in each of their drawn qualifiers v Switzerland, finishing 2nd however this probably peaked a little after the Euros or kn the final and were on the slide since. Very wasteful v Macedonia and Sweden in playoffs too for WC.

I feel like I’ve just watched a pre season friendly where one team really couldn’t care less !

I thought it was insulting to the 24 Championship clubs when one of the commentators stated !It's like watching a team from the Championship taking on one from the Premier League".

Meanwhile on the radio the other day Shearer, Linneker and other former players were discussing "Why can't England win a tournament"? They discussed it though as if they were complete outsiders and not players who've been there and failed themselves.

The way Clive Tyldesley has been treated by ITV is a disgrace. Matterface cannot, and never will be able to, lace his boots.

They've never fully replaced Brian Moore properly on ITV (then again how could they? )

Not sure if British TV showed the same replay, but on German TV there was a clear body-check on one of the Danish defenders as the corner came in. Foul wasn’t on Schmeichel.

It happens all day long regarding defenders and a penalty is never given

Yeah we saw it but still seemed harsh.

Germany already have the same number of shots on target (4) inside 10 minutes than we managed in a whole 90 against Denmark.

Agree - I actually thought the German player just stood his ground and got run into as much as anything else

Top commentator and top bloke to boot. Met him when he commentated on the Paulton Rovers v Norwich game years ago. Came into club afterwards and had time for a chat with with loads of people.

English VAR making a decision about the weather?

If they are worried about lightning, why are the players still out on the pitch?

Edit: They're off now.

Really like the look of that Danish kit. Hummel do some lovely kits

If that was our home shirt I’d be delighted.

No copyright so would love this to be the template for 24/25.

"where are the Germans and frankly, who cares"!

Looks a bit like Old Trafford!

Based on?

He’s a funny one. Showed glimpses of promise last season.

He is the type of player currently that if he went on the win multiple trophies and score hundreds of goals, you wouldn’t be surprised. But if he was to fall off the face of the earth and never be mentioned again, you would be equally not surprised.

I think some you can tell will be superstars at a young age. I don't see it with him. Just my opinion

His performance at Wigan in the cup earlier this year was laughably bad. Missed 3 or 4 sitters.

That said, I do recall a young lad called Harry Kane who was on loan at Millwall miss a couple of sitters at Ashton Gate, and his career turned out OK!

Jack Rodwell looked a superstar in the making, Ross Barkley should have achieved more than he has. I think a becoming a superstar is more than how you look on the pitch in your younger years. Coaching and career decisions will play a big part in the player he becomes.

Remember a lad called Michael Johnson at Man City everyone raved about him was last seen working in a kebab shop!

The rule needs rewriting if only because the punishment of a penalty for that alleged "foul" is not proportionate.

If you really think that is handball, ok, then award an indirect free kick inside the area.

Spot on!

Yep I think Havertz stopped in his run-up. VAR didn't spot that huh

I think we could well see decisions going Germany's way for the rest of the game.
