Not much movement in #BristolCity's pursuit of Scott Twine. A number of clubs interested in the #BurnleyFC man - as before, Scott Parker still wants to have a look at everyone but with nearly 40 first-team players on the books, he knows players will have to leave in this window.

Getting absolutely ridiculous how long we are waiting on this one

Parker has been promoted twice out of this division, very heavily backed though which helps!

This is the point, he is a flat track bully who is found wanting when it isn't all just as he would like it.

Made no notable impression in Belgium either but that isn't too important.

Very heavily backed and made heavier weather of it when possibly needed to, bad attitude at Bournemouth summer 2022...

Agree, give him the biggest budget in the division & he'll do ok. Nice range of knitwear thought, am sure @1960maaan would approve!

Scott Parker is a fraud. Only just managed to get Bournemouth promoted last time he was in this division and then gets found out in the Premier League.

My mind won’t be changed on this until he goes to a middling Championship club and gets results.

I don't wish to drag up old stuff but the position NP inherited, I reckon Parker partly through dint of inexperience, partly through limitations on his ability would have floundered horribly.

Both jobs bring a different type of pressure of course.

I’m not in the Parker-fraud camp.  Hit his objectives in the Champ, not ever relegated side succeeds, e.g. Leeds.  Struggled in the PL with poor sides.  I don’t think he’s the best manager in the world, but he’s far from a fraud imho.

He did seem to have a lower midtable wage bill at Fulham in the PL though.

Wouldn't say he is a fraud, just don't especially rate him. Championship top end budget specialist?

Retaining the likes of Reed, Mitrovic among others at our level too- shouldn't have needed the playoffs IMO.

I think the current situation is that at this moment in time we won't pay the fee that Burnley want.

Secondly despite people saying Twine is desperate to join us and has told Burnley he wants to leave, the reality is he wants to see if he can get into the Parkers Burnley team. So far it seems like he has a chance of doing that.

If Parker does decide Twine isn't in his plans then that may mean Burnley lower their demands.

However it seems Twine is happy to see if he will get any game time for Burnley in August.

So we're basically in a position of waiting to see. It's a gamble. I'd rather we moved on tbh.

He makes heavier weather of it than he should, Brentford have beaten Fulham often but Joe Bryan saved him in the final.

Year 2 would've been more problematic. Likewise Nottingham Forest surged from nowhere and had Bournemouth done playoffs hmm.

I suppose with Parker I'd like to see if he can outperform once in a while, or roll his sleeves up like O'Neil did at Bournemouth e.g. although the latter had more backing. He had to firesake at Wolves and did well in the circs.

Maybe he will cruise it with Burnley who knows.

Now. Who do I believe.

- Scott Twines agent Brian Howard who suggests that Scott is seeing how things progress at Burnley into the season

- Brian Tinnions ***** Ian Gay who suggests that a deal is progressing despite us having not done anything tangible for weeks.

Its a tough one, I’ll grant you that….

Sod when the window closes Ian, we’ve got a Championship fixture in a fortnight!

Clearly neither side will budge, we need to cough the **** up or move the **** on. I vote the former. We’ve clearly got FFP headroom and what the Twine fee is to a billionaire is what a Twix is to me or you.

This bloody saga is driving me to despair 🤣

Why is Ian suggesting we are panicking about a player that was pretty average for us on loan?

I won't lose any sleep if he doesn't sign. At this point I'd probably feel quite relieved as to get him we'd have to pay more than what I think he is worth to us.

I don't think he represents value for money.

Azaz at 2.5 million would have been value for money. Scott Twine at 2.5 million plus isn't.

Azaz at £2.5M was certainly a great deal.

While I tend to agree about Twine's fee, I like him as a player, whether we think he's worth £xxM, is irrelevant, if LM thinks he's worth it etc etc.

It doesn't appear to be moving in a positive direction regardless and I would love to know who our other options are.

I partly agree with you. However, we do need someone. Azaz would have been much better value but he chose someone else. Perhaps Twine is the most established player we can sign in our wage structure that is willing to sign for us? Maybe the alternatives are viewed as too risky not to be patient on ST?

I think we just need to see how this plays out. I think Twine is good. More high floor than high ceiling. Makes us better but probably not good enough to make the difference we want. On the other hand, we can hope it really clicks under Manning and he has a breakout type season where his free kick ability really pushes us forward in terms of getting wins instead of draws. A faint glimmer of hope but one we don’t currently have I don’t think.

I think the broader point is, much as we appear to value Conway above the market, we appear to value Twine below the market (and that’s a function of our desparation as Burnley hold the cards here). Arguably good on us for holding the position but I’d argue there may be a disparity between Liam thinking he’s worth x and what the club are prepared to pay.

Bottom line - I’d rather we didn’t sign him but if we won’t move on the fee, we just need to move on.

I think it was The Athletic that did an interesting piece on Kompany going to Bayern, that it may actually be a good move despite his failure at Prem level. Bayern’s position in Germany is much like Burnley faced in the Championship with a disparity of resources and largely facing teams adopting a low block yet he navigated that with ease. The idea is for him to repeat that with them, not the PL results.

Burnley have seen how  much we have paid on relative punts, theres no way theyll drop their price for a player with proven championship quality, weve shown our cards and they correctly arent budging from their valuation, we either pay the price or move on, this is so Bristol City #tinpot

You are a moron,

They set a price long ago, last season in fact, we don't see the value in that price and won't meet it,

We don't have a bottomless pit of money, this isn't football manager it's real life,

The sort of deal for twine is most likely going to run until the end of the window,

It's the same every season, if Burnley want twine off their books then the closer to end of the window we get, the more the price will drop,

We aren't the only club to be interested in this play and we are not the only club not willing to match Burnleys valuation,

It's the same with Conway, no club is willing to match our valuation, are celtic and rangers tinpot for not doing that?

I don’t think anyone is panicking. I’m certainly not panicking about not signing Scott Twine.

There are, however, absolutely valid questions to be asked that if the head coach wants a number 10 and this deal seems to be going nowhere, having said in May we’d move on quickly if things weren’t happening, why we’re flogging what appears to be a dead horse two weeks before the season starts.

No panic here.

Better than flogging a live one, I guess. That tends to be career ending (when found out - does anyone actually think dressage is done with kindness?)

But back to the topic, I'm guessing that Twine is a known quantity who we remain hopeful of getting and the alternatives are  less certain in terms of knowing what we will get so waiting (with the window far from closed) seems sensible to those at the club responsible.

No panic here.

To be fair we could be actively looking at other options and they just haven’t been reported.

But quite clearly we have made no bids for any no10 Twine or otherwise. And it gets to a point where the club need to ask themselves what’s worse, not getting Twine or not getting anyone.

Also if we are the only ones with major interest in Twine (not sure about that) then going after other no10 a might make Burnley rush their decision if they feel they won’t be able to get more for Twine if we pull out.

We’ve had a rather successful transfer window so far and this is indicated as that last piece of the puzzle and with it we can get a proper look at Mannings Bristol City in the coming season. Move on or pay up imo. (Hopefully the former)

I think it’s more concern than panic, we set out at the start of this window that we needed a 7, 9 and 10 and we’ve now ended up with a 7 and two 9’s. The concern is that in such an important pre season for the current head coach we haven’t given him a key position in the 10 in which to build his patterns of play etc. Now it’s very likely we head into Hull on the opening weekend with one of 3 scenarios. 1, We play Stokes in the 10 and hope he swims instead of sinks 2, we play Knight out of position again in the 10 at the detriment to how the team work and he plays or 3, we play a formation without a 10 which our current head coach doesn’t really want to do. To me any of those 3 scenarios are a failure on the part of our ‘Tecknical’ director.

I said on (I think) the Aldershot thread that I like what I see in Stokes from that game. Plays head up, on the turn, and a few very good balls. You are correct it’s a gamble (and to be fair a longer odds gamble than most in view of where he’s come from), and it’s hard to make a definitive judgement based on one game against Aldershot, but as Twine appears to be going nowhere I’d be seeing how Josh shows up in the next friendly games before making any hasty decisions - whether that’s paying an above market fee for Twine or looking elsewhere at someone who may not have Stokes’ ceiling.

Really don't get the hype with this deal, Twine isn't that good of a player to wait all window on, he's a decent player but nothing more. Maybe we just aren't signing a "number 10" & this deal has been dead for a while? If he knows he will be getting game time this season at Burnley then he would be an absolute mentalist to want to come to us instead anyway.

Spot on, add in to the fact that his first season at Burney was pretty injury ravaged & then unsurprisingly didn't get a look in after their promotion, so i am sure there will be a part of him wanting to prove to them that he was worth the money they spent on him. I certainly don't think he will be going to Scott Parker demanding a transfer away from Burnley just to join Bristol City, regardless of his relationship with Liam Manning.

Or maybe he would prefer to be regarded as a 'key' squad player guaranteed to be fully involved throughout the season as opposed to just a standard squad player with potentially limited game time? Maybe he likes being a bigger fish in the pool as opposed to being a smaller one, so to speak?

We just don't know what his motivations may or may not be.

Whilst that could of course be possible, i would be amazed if a professional athlete at his age would have that mindset.
