After the tepid shitshow that was the Denmark game, I’d have thought he’d start Palmer.

You haven't learned have you BCR?

I'm all for respecting the opposition but this is a side we are playing with two 37 year olds in it. Pekarik at RB and Kucka in midfield.

A strong weakness to exploit surely? They WERE good players obviously and a lot of experience but this Slovakia probably isn't as good as the one with Hamsik, Vittek plus those two players in their prime among others.

Before we even get into our own failings.

Any chance of a midfielder showing for the ball ?

Thats exactly the problem, isn’t it? I don’t mind the sideways, backwards passing across the back if there’s an end objective to it, if it’s waiting patiently for the chance to play that incisive ball forward. But being able to do that depends on midfield movement and on players working to make space. And we just don’t do that.

Just wondering whether for many players playing for their country just doesn't matter as much as playing for their clubs, and certainly doesn't matter as much as it did for previous generations.

Difficult to pinpoint reasons for this shanbles

1 Wrong tactics

2 Not playing for the manager

3 The poor dears are too tired after a Prem season

4 European football has moved on and we have not

5 Wrong player selection

6 Something wrong in the camp we know nothing of

7 Poor training

8 Poor captain leadership on the pitch

What has been noticeable throughout the tournament is the number of teams that, when they win the ball back, break forward at pace with as few as possible quick positive passes , get numbers forward and thereby stretch the opposition defence and isolate defenders.

By comparison, Southgate is using the Bristol City playbook, so when we win the ball back our approach play is laboured, predictable, uses far too many across and back passes, allowing the opposition all the time in the world to regroup, get men behind the ball and back into shape.

Other teams seem prepared to take a risk going forward. England's play reflects Southgate, being very much safety first.

Gary Neville 🔥🔥🔥

Just said the same, apart from don’t swap Walker, he’s been shit.  Just get Trent in for him. Get Toney up top with Palmer on too, and get the ball forward quickly, before Slovakia suck the mins out of the game.  Even if yo7 play for set-pieces, which is our main / only threat.
