Starting 11 vs Hull - current squad

Recommended Posts

Playing Wells in that position shows what an utter shitshow we’ve made of signing “ a ten”  since Scott left. Unbelievable really.

The funny thing is I’d start him up top as the two new players we’ve signed hardly look ready from pre season performances.

Just looking at the games played and line up's , I'm convinced Armstrong starts with Wells behind . The only way that changes is a shock signing before Friday lunchtime. We have started this way more often than not in pre season, no switching Nakhi up on his own or with Fally.

It felt like having a look at Bell last weekend , and although Manning has moved him around and not always seen him as first choice, I think Sykes might have got the nod.

Mehmeti seems certain to play and balance has him on the left.

The rest of the team picks itself pretty much.

One thing seems certain, we should have the strongest bench for years if everyone is fit. With Yu out for a while, I wonder if Nelson might make it into the squad as a real option.

Even with Hirakawa & Atkinson missing if we assume Armstrong gets the nod over Mayulu, our likely bench is;

Bajic, McCrorie, Naismith, Roberts, Williams, TGH, Bell, Mayulu & Cornick.

In terms of depth it has been a very long time since it was that experienced.

Good options , but I would love to see Nelson on there. His pace and direct running late on could be a real weapon .
Not sure who drops out though, Naismith possibly ?

Why would you play Mayulu over Armstrong?

No Wells or Gardner-Hickman in squad?

Knight as a number 10 doesn’t work at all.

Tanner over McCrorrie better at fullback

2nd one I suspect we could lose the midfield somewhat, albeit Hull aren't exactly full power right now.

I suppose Armstrong isn't an orthodox central striker too so he can pull left or whatever out of possession more readily than a typical number 9 e.g.

Could Bell come central with Armstrong goint left in some phases to prevent a 2 v 3 overload.

One thing is for sure, it seems we have a lot more options this year than last.

And this is where the calls for Nelson or even Campbell-Slowey become injury replacement options only.  In the league anyway.  With a fair wind, Hirakawa and Atkinson to come in on top of these 9 soon(ish), makes the Academy lads further away.

If Ayman Benarous can get himself back I consider him more a bona fide first-team option than the “kids”.

Subject to injuries of course..

*King, James

*Weimann

All out.

Plus Dire and Twine were on loan, we are hoping to get the latter back.

Then..

*Bird

*Yu

*Fally, Sinclair

In.

We can add Murphy and Stokes but they surely aren't totally for the here and now.

Then Murphy and Yu are injured of course.

Oh and Conway is persona non grata.

Their fans are sounding just like so many of us on this forum.

Can only see a loss at present.  Would snap your hand off for a 0-0.

We will tough out a 0-0, I agree. With Tommy Conway signing for us in the executive lounge just after full time.

I’ve put £20 on Bristol City to win so fully expecting us to get a victory.
I never ever bet against us but at 3/1 it was a no brainer - I’m either happy after a City win or I’ve got a good kitty to drown my sorrows after.

Read a few bits from Hull fans that the new manager has got their keeper Pandur playing as a sweeper keeper and high up the pitch.

Have a feeling Armstrong will be better suited in away games and this one in particular if they want their defence higher up the pitch and we can exploit the spaces in behind and isolate defenders against his power and pace.

Maybe Mayulu will be better suited at home when teams come to Ashton Gate and inevitably sit in and Armstrong struggles to find space to sprint into. Mayulu looks a better aerial threat and can help with the linkup play.
