Sometimes I think players wait until the window shuts intentionally . probably feel they’ll get a better deal as a free agent when players can no longer move between clubs and injuries occur leaving clubs light in certain positions.

This. For a player like James, who will be independently wealthy and not, for want of a better term, need a job, he doesn’t need to jump at any or every opportunity. There is also the factor that he may still be recovering from his surgery late last season and doesn’t want to make a move until fully fit.

He’s a player that is known as a “good pro”. Clubs won’t have concerns about him missing a pre season as they’ll know he’s professional enough to keep himself in shape, so if he seeks a deal post window closing, I’ve no doubt he’ll get one.

Equally, as with Matt Smith, it wouldn’t surprise me if he retired when he clearly still has the potential to play on.

These pampered footballers eh... " I want to return to the North"

How about Canada?

"Not that far North!".

Fun fact, Toronto lies on a more southerly line of latitude than Bordeaux.

Liam Walsh has just signed for Luton which I found surprising.

I don't know which of these two things shocked me the most!

Nice joke, not actually geographically correct unless he's been offered a job in Yukon

Was...cost of living there has gone through the roof in the last three years.

Beautiful country...but a lot of discontent there now.

On that note, David de Gea took a whole year out!

Doesn't mean it's not still a great country.

I know...I guess it depends on how you define a great country, and what you want from it.

Having worked there, lived there and owned property, imo, it's not what it used to be.

Probably the only offer he had. I'm surprised he passed his medical.

Must have been more anatomical than medical:
Head ~ tick; Body - tick; 2 arms - tick; 2 legs - kind of, but not fully functional!

Can see him linking up with Derby personally or even Blackburn / PNE - his experience could be vital to a club without the funding behind them

but wouldn’t be surprised if Stockport / Bolton clubs around Manchester come sniffing

He’s been offered 1 year in the Chanpionship with Portsmouth but wants 2 years and more northern based.  Been offered 2 years in league one with coaching role which he is considering.  Been offered a move to Canada but doesn’t want to go there for family reasons. He will sign somewhere by end of the month and is hoping that some championship clubs realise they need someone like him after a few games of the season

Gas still looking for players I believe , yet another ex city player would have the gas hoardes squirming even more

Dont be silly kev. Maybe when matty is 35/36 and his legs have gone. Still a quality player. Too good for the blue few anyway.

One of our most underappreciated players ever.

Bad decision to bin him off for a light midfield two of Williams and Knight.

We look so so open now where we were not last season.

Still time to bring him back?

I liked James but that is unbelievably reactionary

He'll go to Coventry and do well in a team that will finish above us.

Similar to Weimann at Blackburn.

I just hope we actually improve overall but have this nagging feeling that without their presence the promising players we've signed will struggle to establish themselves.

Watch us look to make a couple of experienced signings in January....

Releasing James and then giving Williams a new contract was IMO a mistake.
