England interim manager Lee Carsley will not sing the national anthem,

Don't blame him after playing 40 times for the Republic of Ireland, would any of us, if roles were reversed?

Might take a bit of pressure off Jack Grealish(squad number 18) and Declan Rice(squad number 4)

Glad to see our Prime minister will be representing the Country at the match.

The current Ireland manager was the manager in charge of Iceland when England were beaten way back in 2016

Apparently Carsley has never sung at any stage as player or coach .

Guess no one cared when he was the under 21 coach ?

No different to some of the players past and present then as you say.

Nobody complained when Eoin Morgan wasn't singing the National anthem when England won the cricket World Cup.

Mind you it wasn't that long ago many of the team weren't singing it.

I'm assuming Eriksson and Copello didn't sing it

Plenty of England players in the past never sung the anthem particularly Mancs and Scousers, plenty of people don’t believe in a god and plenty of people don’t believe in a monarchy so why would they sing god save the Queen/King ?

I wouldn’t sing it either.  Don’t believe in god and don’t believe there should be a king.  Would be weird to sing it with those views.  Certainly wouldn’t sing it to please Kelvin McKenzie!

Because it's a NATIONAL anthem? There's a clue there somewhere

I wouldn't sing it. I don't believe a song that's supposed to be about the whole country should only celebrate one person

Also, love the DAILY MAIL style headline capitals

Yeah and they get called racists for doing so. Nothing is said when our anthem is booed.

I’m used to be hated. I’m English in America!

You know anyone with a Great Great Grandmother from Cork. Sooner or later it comes out.

Just revel in it!

It wasn't long ago Gazza was poking his tongue out at the camera while the anthem was playing, so it's progress.

Thought Knight did well when he came on, seeing Irelands forwards have a feeling it won’t be too long until Armstrong gets in

Yeah thought he did well too. Harassing and retained ball on the odd occasion he had it.

Armstrong would have given England something to think about!

Aside from the start of the game, I thought the home fans were as bad as their XI on the pitch. All you could hear was the England supporters.

They were concentrating on when Rice and Grealish got on the ball.

😂 😂

I'm fairly sure there are quite a few, but I'm struggling with Tommy Docherty did he or didn't he?

Played against England in a 4-0 defeat for Ireland in 2005 apparently . 26th March.

Played for an hour

Certainly backs up my hunch that he has a real, genuine shot of getting the job full time. Knew his style on play would surprise those who didn’t watch the 21s.

Is why he was my number 1 choice to replace Nige… 🤣🤣

I remember thinking very much the same thing.

As a comparison, I had in mind Steve Cooper, someone who I am not particularly fond of as a man - I mean, I have never actually met him, but I find his pitch side antics and general behaviour totally unacceptable - but someone who plays young players, plays a nice style of football and, of course, was able to use his U17 knowledge to bring in some useful loans.

I was thinking that, if we were able to sign LC, his similar credentials, at an even higher level, would have been an excellent choice.

Yup at old trafford. I was in the same year as Tommy dock's sister kate at school. Can remember that game very well in 2005 was the talk of our whole school at the time.

Can't knock him to be honest, a very limited footballer to be fair, just shows where a bit of talent and aggression got you in the game back then.. He lives in Headley park now in a bog standard 3 bed semi.. bit of a far cry from the likes of rooney and beckham that he shared the pitch with in 2005 🤣

This tournament is an absolute farce.

It’s more useful for teams who won’t qualify automatically for the big tournaments so not us .

And it has a league cup feel feel for the winners I guess ?

Not that bothered until the last 4.
