That's coached though, look at him under Pearson who was all about getting the ball into the box as fast as possible. If he whips in a cross or tries to beat his man chances are he'll be dropped by Manning for not following the gameplan. Sykes has shown over and over again under Pearson, he's not suddenly turned crap, he's following orders. Mannings whole thing is to retain possession and rework it until a better opportunity.

Asked to play out the back as it's written in the FA Principles of Play handbook and we wilt under any tiny bit of pressure Blackburn put us under. 

Blackburn not doing anything special, just working hard and winning their duels man for man and running into space. Not a mad science but it's making us panic and we look frightened.

Look how easy it was to throw away our hard to break down identity, going to take a long time to build a new one back up from scratch in line with this head coach.

Williams and Sykes really do not fit a possession-based team.

 

Sykes was great under a countering team with space to run into, which we were under Pearson. He does not have the flair or unpredictability to work under this setup. 
 

Would like to see these two replaced by McGuane, or by Bird dropping back, and Yu in the next match.

45minutes into the game and there’s been 1 shot on target, of which it was blackburns and they scored. I don’t know about anyone else but i’m finding this new era of front foot attacking high tempo football absolutely riveting!

The quality of both teams is terrible. Totally error strewn with misplaced passing. We’re very disappointing. Expected more of a response at least after the Derby shambles. Got to change things around second half.

That sums up City.  Kept the ball well for quite a few minutes, 70 passes or so, but all in our half and when we eventually lose it had to foul Blackburn to avoid a dangerous attack

This current approach/set up clearly isn't working. Take Williams off, drop Bird to CM (not a 10 imo). Put Twine in 10 (is a 10!) and put some pace/wingers out wide (Mehmeti/Yu)

Blackburns press is smart, 3 man press, 2 drop off to cover a pass, one goes, pass it played, chaser drops off and another goes meaning the passing options are covered and we're under constant pressure on the ball and we have no-one moving to force them to change it.
