Blackburn Rovers away match thread

While I'm not a fan of formation..

At least the sub matches up with it, as Armstrong does have the pace and tools to fight for it in behind.

Can't help but feel the handcuff twine formation, is just not the right one long term.

The sooner we end this experiment the better, regardless of result. It just doesn't optimise players

The striker isn't the issue ffs. What a way to demoralise a new striker.

He's not the only issue but compare what they offer:

Chasing down the opposition higher up the pitch - Armstrong
Pace and power - Armstrong
Creating opportunities -  Armstrong
Completing passes - Armstrong
Finishing - Mayulu

When you break down what each has to offer Armstrong wins everything except taking his chances and when you consider he gets those chances through his pace, power and ability to get the ball higher up the pitch he's a much better choice. Mayulu gave the ball away numerous times in that first half, barely won a header and on the occasion that he did it never made it to another player and he only made Blackburn panic once in the whole half through his pressing, Armstrong did more than that against Derby in the first 10 minutes.
Fally isn't a bad player, but he offers far less than Armstrong as a solo striker.

I agree, but the issue is clearly the midfield. Mayulu had nothing to go off in that half.

Maybe this is the time for Armstrong and Fally together.

Under Manning there never be a time for Armstrong and Fally to be on the pitch at the same time. It doesn’t fit the formation and we never change the formation. Substitutes can only ever be like for like. Because when it’s not working keep doing the same thing! 🤦
