Sack Manning, it’s not working and we are in free fall

Data Dave must be fuming we won.

Unlike you Jimmy squared, who only comes on here when a game happens that supports your worldview (notably you haven’t posted since the Coventry game shockingly), @Davefevs will be on here and also give credit where it’s due. If you’d listened to Radio Bristol he already has.

But in the spirit of attacking the post and not the poster, this post is being a bit of a ***** when it should be happy with a win.

I definitely recall us hitting the side netting at 0-0 but..those are two great chances.

I was on Mehmeti watch today, three good opportunities in the 1st half, hit at the keeper twice, I think, and two Armstrong headers - one glanced from Robert's cross and another powerful one from 18 yards centre that went wide

Jealousy is a terrible trait to have.

And how about this talking point.

Bristol City 2 Oxford Utd 1

We won, was it convincing? No.

Would a better team have scored more goals with the chances Oxford created? Possibly.

Does one win vindicate Manning? Not really.

You may choose to simply look at the result, and that's fine, but yet again the 4th best defence in the league last season looked very shaky, Oxford were passing through the middle with ease especially in the first half. They could easily have gone 2-0 up but for the post and crossbar, and should really have equalised in the 2nd half.

Plenty of talking points beyond the result.

What is so frustrating is that Manning doesn’t see to learn. Swapping Bird and Knight as the “10” but still playing Twine on the left is just perverse as we all know Knight in that forward role didn’t work last season. Thank God Williams got booked early so that he had to change it at half time, put Knight back, move Twine centrally, bring on Yu, plus really go 3 at the back with Roberts playing high on the left. And it worked. We looked much better. However do I think Manning will start like that against Swansea? Probably not and that’s part of the problem. He is to wedded to a 4-2-3-1 formation, plus trying to shoe horn what he thinks are his best players into that, that he ends up playing players out-of-position, who unsurprisingly then don’t play very well. That’s also what is so ****ing frustrating!

And two opportunities blazed over in the second half. One ending up in row Z. You’d think he’d learn.

Mehmeti isn’t the answer - not if we are serious about competing towards the top half of the table.

And City should have gone at least 2-0 up with the chances that Armstrong and Mehmeti had in the first half.

and should really have equalised in the 2nd half.

Plenty of talking points beyond the result.
