Popular Post Silvio Dante Posted Wednesday at 08:57 Popular Post Share Posted Wednesday at 08:57 Died aged 59. For many of us, Italia 90 was a real “rubicon” tournament, English football moving from pariahs to the national game again, the Irish involvement, Gazza, the great German side, Maradona getting arsy at Naples, Cameroon etc - but Schillaci was as much a part as any. He seemed to have come from nowhere to lead the Italian line and looked to be having a blast doing so. Seemed to disappear afterwards so forever associated with that one great tournament. RIP 6 12

Gazred Posted Wednesday at 09:09 Share Posted Wednesday at 09:09 I'd never heard of him before Italia 90 but never forgotten since. Scored against England as well in the 3rd place match iirc and awarded the Golden Boot. RIP

GrahamC Posted Wednesday at 10:10 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:10 Really sad. An iconic player in an iconic tournament. Arguably one at the very end of how football used to be. RIP, Toto.
MC RISK77 Posted Wednesday at 10:21 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:21 My mother is Sicilian and that World cup was very special as not too many Sicilian footballers had graced the biggest stage at all- Toto was a strange one, played for Messina for 7 or 8 years, joined Juve in 89 and then got picked for Italy squad after just one cap- but he had a great World Cup in what was a great team that should have won it especially on home soil. Never really hit the heights of that thereafter, but was prolific in Japan and won J League from memory. RIP TOTO- great memories
tin Posted Wednesday at 10:31 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:31 Like many, Italia ‘90 was my first footballing memory and Toto was a big part of that. Risposa in pace, Toto.
supercidered Posted Wednesday at 10:33 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:33 What a player and what a Tournament. He always looked like he was partial to partaking in copious amounts of Colombian marching powder.
RoystonFoote'snephew Posted Wednesday at 10:39 Share Posted Wednesday at 10:39 A man of the moment. Rose from obscurity and sort of went back there, at least in terms of the European big leagues and the international stage. More than a decent striker on his day. Risposa in pace Toto. Heartfelt condolences to all family and friends.

As soon as I heard the news this morning my first thought was of you and your family and the chats we had years and years back about Toto and Italia 90. Provided some great memories in what was one of the best World Cup tournaments. I hope you’re keeping well mate. McNasty Filth Posted Wednesday at 22:37 Share Posted Wednesday at 22:37 Toto and Roger Milla were my top takeaway memories from Itailia 90, probably my fave WC tournament, atmosphere and vibes were just intoxicating to this 15 year old! Everything from the music to Klinsmans double somersault with pike. Will forever be envious of any England fan that made it out to that tournament. Toto, thanks for the memories, may you transcend peacefully.
