Godzilla
Looking back over the year, it's probably fair to say our record isn't that impressive atall, as we began the year in 3rd spot and a defeat at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers, and went on to finish the year in 3rd following a 2-0 win at Bournemouth last Sunday. Our first league win of the year took almost 2 months in coming, our poor January and February spell being ended by 2-1 victory at the Sixfields over Northampton. Generally, from then until the end of the season our form was good. Allthough our away form left a fair bit to be desired, picking up just 6 points between then and the end of the season, from a possible 18. This poor away form continued into the 2003/2004 season, seeing us win just 3 times in 12 attempts. Our home form has really carried us through, through-out the whole of 2003 we've been defeated just 3 times at Ashton Gate. In 2003, we've played 48 league matches (The amount of matches a team would play in a Nationwide League Division 2 season), leaving us able to pick up a total of 132 points. City have infact picked up just 73 points, leaving us with an average of 1.81 points per game. Our top goalscorer of 2003 is Lee Peacock, with 14 League goals. Oddly enough, it wasn't until March 22nd that he opened his 2003 account, with a goal in the 2-1 victory at Huddersfield. Steve Phillips, in the meantime, is our most capped player, collecting a 100% record appearing in all 48 league games. The player most used as a substitute is Christian Roberts, coming off the bench on 19 different occasions, scoring on 2 of those. While it is argued City's defensive record has tightened up over the year, it is apparent that the goals have dried up somewhat at the same time. Having scored just 56 times in 48 league games, averaging a dissapointing 1.17 goals a game, a figure which really needs to be improved over the course of this season if we are to be gain promotion. All in all, a year which leaves a fair bit to desired, and begs the question whether the current setup is good enough to finish with a top 2 place. Because I doubt 73 points in a season would be sufficent to achieve such targets.
Guest Harry May
Excellent post. I do n't think 73 points would even get us in the play-offs. Caldicot Red.
x3widRacin
In 2003, we've played 48 league matches (The amount of matches a team would play in a Nationwide League Division 2 season) 46? no? The number of League games in the D2 season... Guess that doesn't bode well for our stats
SimplyRed
You can argue statistics till the cows come home. Clever use can make the figures look as good or as bad as you like. At the end of the day, what counts is our position in the league at 5pm on the 8th May 2004... and I still think we can be in the top 2...

tompo
A 46 game season gives you 138 points to play for. As has been pointed out elsewhere, statistics mean nothing as does our position now. It is our position on the last day of the season that we must be judged on.
