Guest Champagne Football
Well, that is £520,000 over a two year contract, easily fundable by the sale of Miller and Heffernan as well as the loss of wages of both of those two players and Dinning. All of that should equate to Stewart's wages being easily paid for.As Blagdon below says, it is probably just a complete guess, it could be anything really! Blagdon red
Obviously a complete - and wild - guess by the WDP ... I doubt it's anywhere near that!
Alex_BCFC
Obviously a complete - and wild - guess by the WDP ... I doubt it's anywhere near that!←In the sun a few days ago it said he wa staking more than a 50% cut in wages to be here. So if we he was on 17-18k on Sunderland, I reckon he is on around 5-7k a week. Heff and Miller sale just about cover it, and hopefully so will season ticket sales and larger attendances. Stoke_Gifford_Red
Well when one of the Scottish clubs were trying to sign Miller, they said he would have to take a huge pay cut to join them as he was on over £100,000 a year.

Stoke_Gifford_Red
Apparently Sunderland were willing to let him go for free by ending his contract by mutual extent as soon as the season ended so he could sign for us, but he didn't want to, so he could get as much money as possible. Nibor
100k a year means Miller was on 1.8k a week or so? Sounds likely enough for someone signed for a big fee.5-7k a week for Stewart? I highly doubt it.The board wouldn't pay more than 3.5-4k even for him and he didn't come here for money did he?Nibor

Gazred
Well I'm more than happy to have a player of his calibre here, but if he is the highest paid player at the club then he better well damn play like it, no matter how little or much the actual figure is. zookeeper
I think the funniest thing about this is that all of the press say that there are rumours of him being paid this. Blatantly they have read this and maybe other message boards and picked up on the highest feasible figure and banded it around. None of them know, they just respond to people saying that they have it on "good authority"

Guest mercury
personally, I don't care what he is on, that's between him and the club. The man wants to play for the club, and has always given 100% for whoever he plays. That's good enough for me, everyone on this forum has been begging the club to sign him for the past 12 months, now we have him, let's not spoil it by whinging about how much he will be on. WesM
I have it on good authority that Marcus's wages are being paid (5k per week) by a private sponsor.Remember you heard it here first!5k isn't a lot when you consider Mickey Bell and Tommy were on 4k a piece! Percy Parrot
I find estimates of wages a bit silly really because no-one really has a clue- it's pretty much all guess work. People DO find out about transfer fees etc- but Stewart's wages are probably only really known by him, his family, the board, ColinS and Tins. Quite simply they are private information that does not get around too easily. Many fellow players will only be guessing at what he is on.

Tunley Legend
Heard on 'good authority' he is on 7k a week. Being funded out of the chairman and boards pockets.←We are hardly breaking the bank any more than in previous seasons. In - Stewart, Russell, Smith, Heywood - £10-12K per week?Transfer fees paid - Signing on fees of the aboveOut - Miller, Heffernan, Dinning, Bell - £8K per week?Transfer fees in - £400K approxSaleable assets - Doherty, Coles, Lita, Phillips, Brooker, Wilkshire, Goodfellow - £1.5-2million between them? (putting the youngsters to one side)Given the above, I would have thought signing Stewart is a reasonable gamble given that the above assets could (in the odd case, WILL) be sold if things went tits up.You could argue the club is being funded by the Chairman/Board anyway (in the form of loans) so I can't see Stewarts signing putting us in a particularly worse financial state than we already are. I was being told from someone who used to work in the club about away trips and how the players were treated and that one player used to like collecting the toiletries from the hotels they stayed. bransonmo
As in the real world, you negotiate terms and if happy you sign the line. Other peoples wages terms and contracts are completely irrelevent. If you are a footballer who has as skill that a club is prepared to pay for, then it surely suits both parties? If we didn't pay then plenty of clubs would. I'm glad that we are at least again in the position to sign such players. It may seem an excessive amount of money to us, obscene compared to almost any other profession, but that's just the way it is. Jelousy and bitterness gets you no where. I just try to enjoy watching the football and as I can't do anything about players wages, contracts etc I don't worry too much about it . I'm happy to leave it to the club who I pay to manage such things!
A Horse With No Name
Lets all post on here what we earn in our jobs. Who's going first? No, I thought not. solo1bc
I think it's natural that we discuss it Kingpin... After all most of us on here would dream being paid to play football and with the way it's gone over the last 10 years (crazy wages!) it's an interesting topic..It's none of our business I guess but we're right to be curious... We pay the wages after all... well kind of...
