Tranmere Away

As i cant make the massive trek up north this weekend (due to financial reasons), ive been looking to get the train up to tranmere on the 22nd. So far ive got the train booked from Bristol to Liverpool and i know the nearest station to the ground is Rock Ferry, but ive no idea how to get from one to the other as the earliest train it brings up on nationalrail.com is at 16.45.

Just wondering if there was anyone else who's been up by train before that could help me out.

Cheers

Get the 'Ferry Cross The Mersey' much more fun, then a bus to Tranmere from Birkenhead.

That's right. Leave Lime Street and go to Pier Head, the ferry is quite frequent and really interesting to listen to the talk about the history of the Mersey port. Get educated before the game, get 3 points at the game, get just a tad smashed on the way home. Perfick.

Just wondering if there was anyone else who's been up by train before that could help me out.

The closest railway stations are both Rock Ferry and Birkenhead Central, and they are both served from Liverpool Lime St.

Both stations are a fair walk from the ground. (15-20 minutes). Directions from Rock Ferry station; 'Upon leaving Rock Ferry turn right and walk up the road for a fair distance until you reach a roundabout. At the roundabout, turn right again and walk straight up until you are close to the Sportsman pub. Then turn left down Everest Road and walk straight down to the bottom where you will be standing opposite the turnstiles for the Cowshed Stand'.

Also, If you get off the train instead at Hamilton Square, there is a football bus laid on just outside the stayion. It runs about every 10-15 minutes and if you show your train ticket you can get aboard for free of charge, otherwise it costs 50p.

Hope that helps??.

They don't consider themselves to be Scousers on The Wirral, it's posh you see.

The Wirral is where all the scousers go to set up home once they've stolen enough stereos to afford it.

The area around Rock Ferry, in fact make that Birkenhead in general, is what is technically described as a 'craphole' and is not the safest place in the world. Get to Hamilton Square, and get the 'Soccerbus' to the ground. When you get on the train at either Lime Street or Chester, ask for Prenton Park and they'll give you a through ticket, so you don't have to pay to get on the bus. A word of warning though, Lime Street will be very busy because of Liverpool fans going to Old Trafford for the Cup Semi Final, which is on later in the day (5.15?)
