Referee: Mark Cowburn - Blackpool

Asst: David Birkett - Lincolnshire

Asst: Gary Stott - Greater Manchester

Disappointingly for such a big game, the Referee is rated 6th from bottom of the Rate the Ref website.

You have to cast your minds back to October 2000 for the only occasion that Referee Cowburn has officiated a game involving City.

:D:D:me?::):(

I knew this would happen one day, he was bound to ref us again :clap::(:clap:

Mark Cowburn is the ref that blew his whistle whilst a Bournemouth shot was flying goalwards, presumably to give a free kick to them, but after the ball beat our keeper, decided to play advantage instead!

Those with good memories will also recall that he was the target of a couple of bottles being thrown at him due to his ineptness in this same fixture. I've held him in low regard ever since that day.

Well, on the plus side you could say "he owes us one" :D

Do I recall a particularly controversial free-kick Bournemouth equalised from that game?

Wasn't this the ref where a City fan ran onto the pitch (V Bournemouth) and went to hit the ref then bottled it?
If I remember he didnt bottle it he just threw like a girl and missed

i can't believe he is actually still a ref the man was an absolute joke that night, by his actions we nearly got into serious trouble with the FA, or was that just the guy who ran on the pitch & through a punch like my Gran. does anybody know waht happened to this guy?

On the plus side, he reffed Tranny 3 Pmuff 0 recently.
....and the Tranmere fans think he was abysmal missing several key decisions for Plymouth!

He also reffed Rovers' biggest win this Century when they beat Darlo 4-0

If I remember rightly it was a Friday night game - we were 3-1 up and the ref helped Bournemouth to a 3-3 draw. That free kick decision was probably one of the most bizarre decisions I have ever seen. I think it was Steve Fletcher who scored it.

I do n't condone crowd violence , but I could understand the anger and frustation felt by the fan who got on the pitch that night.
