Just reading the 'Jamie McCombe that tackle' topic.

It got me thinking what were the key moments of this season so far, there have been many. (Hopefully one big one to come)

One of them was McCombe's goal against Docanster, or earleir on in the season against Northampton.

Or even the come back against Middlesbrough, Keogh's goal.

The sort of moments that made me think this team may have what it takes to get promotion.

What were yours?

Staying with McCombe but his goal yesterday right on half time when playing as badly as we did, and with forest and blackpool winning it was the most important goal of the season up to now.

one of the key moments was losing away to middlesborough... such a good result and then they can carry on in the league

Thought at the time that Showunmi's original goal against Carlisle in December could be massive, as we ended up with 3 points more than we deserved - and it has certainly proved handy.

Johnsons last gasp against Huddlesfield.

Didn't aprove of the celebration, but since then he's shown himself in a far better light, likewise Orr has been simply superb after such unjustified abuse from one of our own.

OK we only got a point, but that point could well be crucial come 5pm next week!

Got to agree. That and the last minute winner at Donny. Both pivotal moments.

I think the win at chesterfield was key. It was an excellent performance and the start of a crucial set of away wins.

Enoch's goal v Crewe off the chest, if that had not gone in then I don't think we would of had a bit of confidance to carry on playing to the end the next week v Donny and keep pushing and hoping for somthing, and it did!

i would say the key moment with regards to this season happened about 18 months ago.

bringing in a certain 'conference manager'. didnt have a great few months to begin with, but you can put a lot of this season down to the way johnson had us playing in the latter stages of last season.

a few ins and outs later, and were on our way to the championship

Dave Cotteril sticking in a great solo goal against Northampton when we only had 10 men. Turned our season around and proved we had promotion credentials.

Captain Carey poking a 93rd minute winner in against Millwall to bring championship football to Bristol!

Us having to go up to Carlisle the form team of the leaguge and coming home with 3 points. Imo; we kicked ass when it mattered. Bring on Millwall.

The comebacks against Cheltenham, Bournemouth & Tranmere around December/January. We could have quite conceivably lost all 3 of those, and be scrapping for a play-off place now.

I remember posting at the time that those were the kind of points that I would remember, also the Leyton Orient game where we had to hang on to points that should have been in the bag.

Bradley Orr headbutting Carey was quite a turning point

It really was. At that point we had 3 points from 4 games, been knocked out of the FLC by a lower league side and there were some troubled rumblings on here and around the ground.

For the 10 men left on the field to not implode all together, but to turn the whole thing around and win was an incredible moment. We all know now the pressure that Bradley and the other accused were under and we can guess at how that pressure was affecting the dressing room.

The headbutt was an awful moment, the reaction to it was absolutely crucial.

What a topsy turvy season this has been!

Thinking back to where we were last season, relegation was on the cards, players in court and not playing for the shirt to where we are now. Nothing short of amazing.

As I mentioned in the thread, McCombes goal against Donny and Bassos save against Yeovil were huge in terms of our run in. But losing to Rovers in the cup could be seen as our major turning point as we really hit some form after all around us were losing theirs.

Some incredibly crucial moments - among them the late winners at Orient and Donny - but in terms of a turning point, there's no shadow of a doubt in my mind that we witnessed it at Northampton away. The whole atmosphere around the camp and among the supporters changed, and we suddenly saw a team that believed in themselves again and pulled together as a unit. The match looked like becoming a complete disaster, and the players pulled it round and turned it into a triumph.

If there was one pivotal moment, that was it.

For me the Huddersfield game and LJ goal, we were absolutely shocking that day and this was probably the day LJ turned his form right round.

and when Calderwood came out and said how nervous we get near the finishing line, did all GJ team talks for him in one interview. Cheers

:clapping::clapping::clapping::rofl2br::rofl2br::rofl2br: Quality about calderwood.

For me it was a couple of minutes before half time at Northampton when Orr went for Carey. Also, the Brighton game at home in the league. 2 days after the court case. The way GJ handled both situations was second to none.

Key for me was that last week in August:

29 Aug: Northampton away

30 Aug: Stewart to Yeovil

31 Aug: Cotterill to Wigan

1 Sep: Players jailed

2 Sep: 1-0 vs Brighton

Winning that game against Brighton was so important. Lose it and the 'soap opera' could have continued to this day. That the players drew a line under all of that is a credit to them.

Since then we have seen committed performances from every player in the squad, all pulling in the same direction. IMO Stewart leaving was a big part in them being able to do that. The £2m for Cotterill has meant we have been able to go through the season not worrying about the finances.

It was a week that felt like the end of the world, but GJ and the players ensured it was the beginning of something hopefully very special.

I would like to add my weight to the key moment being the JPT defeat to the gas - gutting at the time but it is a distraction and a mickey mouse cup. When would we have played Forest then? Closer to the end of the season.... more nerve racking etc???

The away game at Oldham where we controlled the game and Skuse gave a glimpse of the player he could become.

Beating them 3-0 on their own patch gave everyone, including the players, the belief that we could actually go all the way this season - and also sent a warning to the rest of the division that we are serious promotion prospects.

From, and including, the Oldham game I make it that we've played 17, winning 10, drawing 2 and losing 5 = 32 points.

100% total agreement. Oldham game was a quantum leap in the quality demanded of City sides and as you say it has been reflected in almost all away performances since then. An impressive unit playing with strength, confidence, superior fitness and greater will to win.

Like many I've had my doubts but Oldham was not only the most convincing away performance in almost a decade but the first real evidence this season that we had a side who were greater than the sum of their parts and capable of beating anyone in the division. That's when I started believing anyway.

Not sold out yet - but theres still another two weeks to go. If any tickets are left by the Rotherham game they will be on sale in the DEH from about 1pm onwards - but there may not be any so don't delay if you fancy a great night out.

I think the two games over the Easter Period really helped us. We dropped 5 crucial points but our heads didnt go down. Johnson gave them a 'rolloking' and a kick up the bum. I feel that these two games helped us to where we are now. The away defeat to Gillingham made us realise that it wasn't all over yet and Forest weren't going to give up. We are so close to promotion now and EVERYONE at the Club deserves it. Yep thats right even the moaners who turn up every week to see the team play.

I don't think there's been a single turning point this season. There have been many important moments all touched on in this thread.

What's really made it however, is not any one of those or even all of them. It's been the consistent hardworking attitude, professionalism and focus that GJ has instilled in the team throughout.

Without meaning to be negative, some of us look back at the last 44 games and wonder how we're second. Not because we've been poor, but because we haven't really stood out ability wise either like the last two promotion sides we've seen did.

The truth is that this team has a winning mentality that has allowed us to find that extra 10% to be ahead of Forest and the others at this point.

Well done GJ, the other staff and the players for the previous 44 games, let's keep it up for the next two so it all means something. The giant suprano is warming up and might even be waddling to the stage but she ain't in full voice just yet. However, unlike any other recent city sides, I'm confident this side knows that full well.

Northampton away. No question.

Lose that and we were in the relegation zone. The win against the odds shot us halfway up the table and we've been on the up pretty much ever since.

oldham game was massive in terms of showing that we were a real force in this league and showing how we could play.

McCombe shrugging off illness to play on Saturday and be immense was also vital.

i think not getting to the JPT final helped as we didn't have the distraction and being knocked out of the F.A cup how we did was great as it built confidence right up, without progressing to far and getting lots of extra games

David Noble returning from injury and bang on form just when it mattered. Not featured enough this season for one reason or another, but against Yeovil he proved just what a great talent he is. To add another cliche that game was like the final piece of the jigsaw coming into place.
